| Fire Coral | Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page 50hrs into the skimmer (6pm last night) it started to collect in the cup. When I left this morning at 7am there was 1" of skim in the cup so hopefully its about ready to kick into overdrive for me. Not using the foam and sitting 1" above the plate. Rarely see any micro bubbles now. I didn't realize there was so much room behind the tank (I bought my 130 assembled) or how large that rsm skimmer was, what a beast! I have the ER Skimmer pushed as far right as it can be so there is quite a bit of room back there.

| Tunicate | Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page Hi To All, I have one of these on the way to me and I can not wait. The only thing is after reading and reading and reading through this thread there are loads of different tips, ideas, do and don’ts, this way and that way. Can any one please let me know the best way to go when starting off. For example which wheels to start with, foam or no foam, what height to start the skimmer off at? Would be much appreciated Cheers Joe ![]() |

| Fire Coral | Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page JoeB10ggs - I read every post of this entire thread twice and took notes before deciding to go the way I did. No foam insert, pushed entire unit as far right as possible, piece of foam against heater pane for a bubble trap, and the skimmer could be pushed almost to plate. I guess its a each his own type deal because everyones water / organics are different? I decided against using the foam insert because everyone stated they had to lift the unit all the way up to prevent an overflow? Others ran it without the foam so it can be done. I did notice that if you stand above tank and look down as you slide the air lines down or up thru the plate there is an immediate change in the micro bubbles in that chamber so keep that in mind when your seeking relief from the micro bubbles!

| Midas Blenny | Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page Redseareef; This is day 13 of running. I had measured one of the wheels before and it was just a fraction less than one inch, you said it was the small one. Right now I have the sponge in, bottom of cup is 3 in. above plate. This has been the most reasonable spot for any ou put which is watery, almost clear. Any lower and the foam rapidily fill the cup. I have not put any kind of additives in the tank, other than food, since Thursday, and that was a buffer. I've fed frozen Mysis and Cyclopese, phyto (once on Monday) and dry pellets. No change in micros. |

| Midas Blenny | Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page Oh my golly! I just went to look at the tank, and what to my wondering eyes should appear....a blizzard! Microbubbles galore. Now what! Seems the sponge has been sucked out of the bottom some how. I'm beginning to think this thing is possessed! LOL. I'm not up to dealing with it right now. Can't make up my mind if I should turn it off until I feel better or let it go and see if it rights itself. |

| RS Sponsor | Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page flynfish, Both the Mysis and cyclopis will make the skimmer go nuts! Stop the feeding with those two and let the skimmer get settled in. once it gets settled in you will get to see how it works and you will know what to expect when feed. I have used the cyclopsis, and that stuff is LOADED with proteins and fats. It will make your skimmer go nuts until it removes it all! LOL...............

| NaClH2O Addicted ![]() | Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page flynfish - I had the sponge fall out once at the beginning. I think it happened when I was lifting up the skimmer to be sure the pumps were in all the way, and I think the weight of the sponge and water in the column popped the sponge out. Shortly after that I removed the sponge, in order to keep the cup from filling up with water quickly. I haven't had the sponge in since day one.

| Fire Coral | Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page Joe - Facing the tank push it far right. Then place a piece of foam against the heater pane on the far left. Use something that wont clog easily, which is why I used a piece of the mag pump foam its very porous. Works great as a bubble trap! I read threads in the 150 mods where people added ATO so check those for tips on that.

| RS Sponsor | Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page Reef Ghost, You should not need to add any foam. Be VERY careful. If that thing clogs you may have a flood. Check the heights carefully around the back chamber walls. Once completely broken in, no foam should be needed anywhere. I use zero foam and have very few bubbles in my main tank. Possibly a stray one here and there, but I have to look hard for them. The added room in the back sure is nice huh? It's great, and makes vacuuming the bottom chamber a snap WITHOUT removing the skimmer at all! I love it!

| NaClH2O Addicted ![]() | Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page I used the coarse black sponge against the heater pane, as a bubble trap, but kept the top of the sponge low enough so that if it plugged up (never did) the water would still be low enough that it would flow over the foam, without being able to go over the rim. Once the skimmer broke in I pulled out the sponge.
