does this skimmer for the 250 stick out at the back too?? I dont like the fact that you have to take out the back lid for the 130. I hope its not the same for the 250. The whole point of the RSM is for the nice closed look of it.

Yes, you new skimmer just went out! We sent you the large mesh wheels, as they produce the most foam. I am waiting for some small mesh wheels to come. IF you think you need them I will ship them. I am going to be testing the small wheels here today. I will post information! PLEASE REGISTER YOUR SKIMMER AND KEEP ALL RECEIPTS!!!

Hi guys,
Ok, I just finished up installing the small alloy mesh wheel impellers. Boy, has the skimmer dropped in level. I had my hands in the water, so it's going to take some time for the skimmer to kick back in. Here is a picture of the skimmer height as of right now. I am guessing this to be fairly close! It's certainly much more docile then the larger wheels.
Ok, on this first picture look closely at the dark line I have drawn on the body below the mounting plate. That line was level with the top of the mounting plate before with the larger alloy mesh wheels installed!!!!
There has been a considerable drop now in the body.

Here is another picture from the top view. You can see only about 2/3 of the collection cup will show once the lid is drilled! My foam is still rising. I will have some pics in a few hours of the skimmer pulling out gunk.

Hi Terry,
No, becasue I did that like a week ago. I got back from some running around today and it looked like I had to lower it way more. I got my hands in the tank and it stopped the skimming. So, it's gonna take a little time here again. Yes, I should have some pics here in a bit!

Hi guys,
Well, with the two smaller impellers I had to lower the skimmer all the way down to the base plate! WOW! You could cut a hole in the lid and it would stick up about 1.5 inches out of the lid! That's it!
Tomorrow, I will remove the collection cup and clean it out. Set a time and see what it pulls out as compared to the large mesh wheels!
Should be quite interesting!!!

Here's a picture with looking at the top. You can see how low down in teh hole the skimmer sits now!

Todd - have you tried putting the Euro-Reef bubble trap sponge in? Based on what happened with the new skimmers I would guess that should allow the unit to be raised up if it gets to the point that it can't be lowered enough to get the foam up into the cup.

That is my next move. So far, the skimmer is still chugging out the skimmate. I am going to take some pics for you guys here later today. The smaller mesh wheels are looking to work VERY well indeed.
A intersting observation: feeding the tank does not stop the skimmer now!!!

oh man...so close to pulling the trigger on buying one Todd. I really like how easy it is to adjust. How much can the water level change with this skimmer before it needs to be adjusted? With my Tunze, I am checking/changing it everyday as I currently do not own an ATO. The Tunze has a 3/8" sweet spot I have found.

Does the cup come off the skimmer like the Tunze? I haven't seen any pics of that yet.

YEs, the cup comes off. We just sold a skimmer to a guy with a CAD-25 tank that had a Tunze. He said, this thing is a beast! He's VERY happy with it!
Seems the skimmer is just as efficient with the smaller mesh wheels then the larger ones.
One thing, the pumps are now submerged 3 inches down below the water surface. So they do not have to pump up as high now!
Feeding has very little effect now, due to the pumps being below the surface.
Here are a few pictures. Also, the flow through the body is much more smooth now it seems. I am guessing the bubbles are getting a bit more contact time as well.
Looks very promising!

TonyV - the cup just lifts off - it doesn't have a neck like the Tunze - the bottom of the cup has a funnel type rim that fits onto the cylinder. Almost zero additional height to remove it - just lift it off and dump it! I do shut mine off when I lift the cup off so that the beast doesn't foam down the sides. Hi Terry,
thanks for the input! You are going to be quite shocked when you try the smaller alloy mesh wheels out! The skimmer "SEEMS" to be pulling out even more skimmate!!!!
One thing I have noticed is a much smoother running skimmer now. You can see by the pictures how much lower the darn thing is!
I have decided to include the smaller mesh wheels now with each skimmer.
This will allow the user to use the included foam piece during break in. Making it much easier and more manageable!
