Chemi-pure question, help.

My order arrived today, but apparently I ordered the big bag of Chemi-pure. Is that going to be too large to use for the 130D? I mean, can you over filter, or is it ok to use it as is?

Re: Chemi-pure question, help.

there are three sizes that i know of i just put the 1 unit size in my 45g.

im not sure what size you received but if it says 1 unit on the back of the container you are fine. im not sure about over filtering though.

the 1 unit size that i bought says that it is good for 5-40g tanks for 4-6 months so im guessing you should be fine but wait and see what others say

Re: Chemi-pure question, help.

i would remove the bio balls regardless. but if your tank hasn't cycled yet, which at one week im not sure it would have, i would not put in the chemi-pure.

and i would do what redsea reefer said. just split it up and use it seperatley

Re: Chemi-pure question, help.

If you have at least 30 pounds of live rock, then remove bio balls now and leave in the carbon till the cycles done. Replace with the chemi pure. I removed my bio balls into month 3 and replace my chemi pure elite every 2-3 months now and never put the bio balls back in.

I don't have 30lbs of rock. I have 1 big one and 1 medium sized one...if I were guessing, probably about 20lbs...

If you are gonna get rid of the bio balls, then you should get at least 10 pounds more to get more good bacteria.

Re: Chemi-pure question, help.

Thanksfor the responses. Back to my original question...can I use the 4 unit package I received, or is it possible to "over-filter"??

Re: Chemi-pure question, help.

Just my opinion - I'm not sure if the 4 unit bag would overfilter, but CP is expensive. I'd rebag it into smaller portions no more than about 1 unit. I'm pretty sure that a 4 unit bag will really restrict flow no matter where you put it. If it does as I expect you can't as easily rebag it after it's been soaked in the tank water. It'll be messy enough rebagging it dry (it always seems to be a bit damp when you open a fresh can).
