| NaClH2O Addicted ![]() | Re: Reefmack's RSM 130 Quote:
Seriously, I have a problem with an increasing Majano anemone population, and the raccoon is one of the few that will eat them. As with the previous Foxface, the fish was obtained as a "problem solver", although it is quite peaceful, as well as the Flame Angel. Both, especially the Raccoon can be coral eaters. So far all is good. I noticed last night that a lot of my Majanos had the appearance of freshly cut grass - no long tentacles. So, it seems like the Raccoon is doing his job. I couldn't see any damage to any other corals, so I have my fingers crossed that he just likes the taste of anemones. I was going to get a Copper Banded, but the Raccoons are hardier, and supposedly better Majano eaters than the Copper Banded. If I don't have to remove the Raccoon due to coral munching. I'll have to remove him when he gets too large. A friend of mine getting out of reefing was going to get rid of the few fish that he had - no one wanted the Raccoon, and I had a need, so the fish's fate was at least better going in my tank than the alternative. Risky, but it's a chance I took. Time will tell what happens. The Flame is a lot less risky. Like many others I had 2-3 cute little Majano anemones that came on my rock as hitchhikers. I found out early what they were, but thought they were kind of cool and didn't get rid of them when I should have. Bad decision! It took them a while, but they eventually started moving and popping up in several places, and while Aiptasia-X will do a job on them, some are hard to get at with a needle, and there's always a chance that Joe's Juice or Aiptasia-X and similar will drift over and kill other corals. I had that happen using Joe's Juice once - killed a bunch of neighboring zoas when it drifted. I once set up a little 9G tank with rock from the RSM that had a couple on it, didn't deal with them in the 9G tank, and they quickly covered the rock. I had to restart that tank with all new rock & substrate to get rid of them.

| Golden Moray | Re: Reefmack's RSM 130 cool, thanx for the reply. Like you said, it's probably better off in your tank then some other poorly maintained tank. Hey, its your tank so you can put in whatever you want man. I have been thinking about putting in a flame angel for a while but I don't want to disturb the peacefulness of my other fish that i have in there. I have went through hell and back taking out rocks and removing a problem fish and replacing it with another only to do the same again...I have done that 3 or 4 times already and i don't want to do it for the 5th time.

| NaClH2O Addicted ![]() | Re: Reefmack's RSM 130 redsea reefer - I can understand not wanting to take another problem fish out. I may have to do that soon. The Raccoon has been doing a great job on the Majanos and I noticed tonight that the Majanos that were on and killing off some branches on the left side of my big green Pocillopora are decimated and just about totally gone. On the other I've seen him nipping at some palys (the ones I hate) and possibly my Duncans (closed up, but not totally unusual). The Raccoon is just doing what they do, so I can't blame the fish. But I may have to get him out and donate him to one of my lfs if things get worse. The Flame has been happy to eat normal fish food so far, and has been no problem.

| NaClH2O Addicted ![]() | Re: Reefmack's RSM 130 Thought I'd take a few shots today. FTS - I'm in recovery mode after strangely losing all of the one species of zoa on the right side. That streak on the left is from window light reflecting off of the tripod leg. Wrong time of the day to take an FTS!: ![]() Went to the LFS today and bought what I told myself I'd never put in the tank again - Xenia. the wife liked it though, and reefers have to think of the other-half once in a while LOL! ![]() The Xenia was a larger colony, growing on a branched acro skeleton. I cut off some empty branches, and put one branch with Xenia on it in the new 6G tank. Also bought a Fiji Blue Devil Damsel for the 6G tank - that'll be the only fish in that little tank - beautiful fish, but no pics yet. I took the Seriatopora birdnest that has been in the top back since I got it, cut it off the PITA to mount plug it was on, and fragged it into 3 pieces - that thing has tripled in size since getting it about 2 months ago. Hopefully getting it out under more lighting will get it back to pink. ![]() And a few more general pics. Here's my Palau Green Nepthea - a fish swam through it as I was getting the camera ready and lot of the polyps closed up: ![]() Hyacinth Birdsnest (Seriatopora): ![]() Green Pocillopora ( I have 2 small colonies of this growing on the back gate): ![]() Florida Ric I got last week: ![]() My Tuxedo Urchin - he pics up every loose shell & piece of acro on his back in his travels. Why the wife calls him "Velcro": ![]() The Duncans - thank goodness my concern that the Raccoon was picking at them was unfounded: ![]() Pink Pocillopora (in the middle): ![]() The big orange Monti Cap - the Yellowtail Damsel likes to hang out in its bowl: ![]() I liked this pic so I figured I'd post it (my big green Acro on the left): ![]() That's it for now.
