Smile C-Balance 2 part recommended dosage

Hi guys, I have this additive just in case my calcium starts getting depleted and last time I check my CA was 400. I used my 2 part and added 1 ml for each part for the 1st time today. How much do you guys put daily or even weekly? I do bi-weekly WC with NSW.

Re: C-Balance 2 part recommended dosage

Before I switched to a bulk supply A&B I was using Kent Tech CB, probably similar to C-Balance, and was daily adding about 10 ml of the A (Ca) and 4-4.5 ml of B (Alk). Now I'm trying out the Red Sea Calc powder - only 1 thing to add. It's almost impossible to recommend a dose to you as it all depends on the number & type of corals you have in the tank. Starting out low is a good idea, but I'd guess you'll end up at more than 1 ml/day. Just keep tracking your Ca, Alk and pH every day or two till you can narrow in on what you need to add of each, and then check it at least weekly after that to be sure you don't need to adjust.

Re: C-Balance 2 part recommended dosage

First test the calcium and alkalinity (should also keep an eye on magnesium).

Then...

Re: C-Balance 2 part recommended dosage

Thanks Woodstock - I forgot all about that caculator. I've used it in the past. Still best to test since using both parts always in equal amounts doesn't always work. My alkalinity at one time was getting too high doing that, so I ended up using more A than B.

Re: C-Balance 2 part recommended dosage

Thanks guys. I will keep an eye on the CA and ALK before I increase the dosage and if I really need it in the 1st place. My MG is pretty up there(1500). I tested ALK and it was around 7-8. Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: C-Balance 2 part recommended dosage

redseareef- Sure, I'm still trying to get the correct dosage to keep my CA above 400. I'm dosing it every other day of 1ml of each additive(A and B). My CA is at 420 right now.

A calcium level as low as 380 ppm is acceptible. See this link: Reef Aquarium Water Parameters by Randy Holmes-Farley - Reefkeeping.com

Re: C-Balance 2 part recommended dosage

Mav,
I keep my calcium at 420-450. This way, you have a buffer zone so to speak if you miss a day or two. With Acropora, you miss a few days and it drops down too low............. kiss your corals goodbye.
Too low of a calcium level has a negative effect on all corals. Very much so on the more delicate species.
By the way, I keep my KH at 9.5 with excellent results. Again, this gives me a buffer zone in case I miss a day!

Re: C-Balance 2 part recommended dosage

Same here - I try for 420-450 Ca, and an Alk of about 10.

As a new RSM owner, I can see that I will never, ever be able to take another vacation. What do you folks do if you have to be away for a few days or longer?

It's a problem I haven't had to deal with yet. I guess with the auto top off and my son nearby it'll be in his hands.

Re: C-Balance 2 part recommended dosage

mzreenie,
You automate it! Water top off and dosing as well! HAve a family member come and check on it for you. School them the basics first. Then, say a prayer!!!!!

Re: C-Balance 2 part recommended dosage

I'm planning to go out of state for a 3-4 days vacation early next year and it's going to be a problem. Auto top off is one key but there are soo many other things to worry about. I have to teach someone to do it before I take off...and say a lot of prayers...hehe...I just added a monti frag today and I might have to bump the dosage to 2 ml each. Thanks for all the input guys.

I better start teaching my neighbors - they owe us plenty for all the times we watch their dog and cat.
