I want to try and install a 150w DE MH in my hood. Nanocustoms has a set up but its way big $ so I might try it myself.

mbdave - be careful if you try it. I've heard of one or two instances when the heat from the Nanocustoms modded hoods was enough to deform the RSM hood. If you attempt it be sure you install enough fan power to take that heat out.

Dave,
I have found a 36 light 9 3/4x 9 3/4 LED set up for under 200.00! It uses no ballast and runs very cool! 18 blues and 18 daylights for a total of 40 watts.
Both of our PAR meters are out right now on rental. Once I can get my hands on one, I will get some PAR numbers for you.
I think for this size tank the LED's may be the way to go! This set up uses a scathing 40 watts...................................LOL

By the way, I have a few LED flashlights. One is a Surefire. That thing is sooooooooo bright it's unbelievable!!!!
And the batteries last forever in it! I think the LED's are really the next big thing!

I will wait and see on the LED's, not saying they are not a viable option, but not quite there yet. Thats cheap though usually they want the house and barn for them.

I hear ya on the price issue! I got a chance to see some nice ones at the latest So Cal show in Costa Mesa. They are impressive!
However, I too and still learning about them! THey seem to be the future though for sure! They cost next to nothing to run, and last a loooooong time! The heat issue is done as well! And they are small and can fit into very tiny places as well!
They look VERY promising.

If I recall what I've read correctly, one of the problems with the new LED lighting is that it's very directional. The PAR drops off rapidly in areas not directly under the lights. I suppose with enough LEDs and spaced well that may not be a problem.

You are correct! I know there 700mA and 1000mA. The 1000mA are supposed to be really strong. optics plays a role in these as well!
GUESS WHAT I DID GET TODAY GUYS??? A SHIPMENT OF MAX PARTS THAT WE NOW STOCK!
I am amazed at the cabinet cooling fan and I am installing one tonight. They are REALLY nice!
What cool about them is no cutting required! That's right! They screw right into the cabinet opening at the top!
The fan really moves some air too! It should cool my cabinet down inside nicely!
EHEHEHEHEHE,,,, I got a toy today! Check out the pics!

and another picture. Showing the front. The front actually faces the inside of the cabinet! It sucks the hot air out, and shoots it off to the right!

You can see from this back shot that it directs the hot airout to the right, between your wall and the back of the stand!
Pretty slick! Or "SICK" as the neighborhood kids say!!!!LOL!

Hey guys,
Got here mounted! Wow! Much cooler in there! Little thing works really nice. It blows the air right out the side to between the wall and the tank! Check out this picture! Easy install! 4 Mounting screws! Chiller's going to kick on shortly, cannot wait to see how hot the top of the chiller gets!

Very "cool" Todd! How loud is that bad boy? I bought a 5" stealth computer fan (almost silent) but doesn't pull out as much air as I would like. Is that thing mounted at the very top of the back cut-out, looks like you have removed the shelf?

Hi Echo,
No, it's mounted righ tbelow the shelf. With just enough room for the hoses to fit through! Not too loud. With the door shut, it's pretty quiet. Not any more loud then the stock hood fans I would say. Keeps it nice and cool in there!
So far so good! Easy quick mount too. Nice design. I like it!
