Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

Tony

I agree and I guess that is what we will have to do. Just gets me upset when I see 28 gallon systems with crystal clear water going for less than $500. I bought Red Sea because I was told it was the best. Unfortunately we are left to modify this system somehow and Red Sea has not responded to an inherent problem with this product. My water is consistently full of bubbles and appears cloudy despite implementing every suggestion from Red Sea. Not what I expected after spending $900 for the 130D.

Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

Yep, I hear you. I am really frustrated with the tank now. I have spent more $$$ with replacing items just to see if it improves performance than I would have spent if I went with my first route. I tossed between a build up system or an all-in one. I am wishing I went with the build up system now. My LFS has the exact system I was planning and it is 100% bubble free. I am going to give this tank about 1 month before it goes on craigslist.

Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

microbubbles are little tiny bubbles that get pumped into the tank by the circulation pumps usually caused by the skimmer or splashing of water.

Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

Ok I just noticed my bubbles are caused by the skimmer. When I turn the skimmer on I see microbubbles entering the carbon media section from the skimmer which eventually ends up in the pump. What do I do? I turned off the skimmer for now.

Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

I just read on RSM site that if the skimmer is causing the microbubbles to check if I have the "good" blue-ring skimmer inlet? What is that? I have a 3 week old 250.

Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

I think the "blue ring fix" only applied to the original, early production 130 models.

Well I just checked my inlet ring and its black, not blue. However I do have the 250. I should probably call Pinky.

Re: My Microbubbles in RSM SOLVED!

I have a new RSM 130 D that I setup in April 2009 and I would get a few burst of microbubbles not to bad, about a week ago I had to turned the skimmer off to do a water change and normal maintenance when I turned it back on a lot of microbubbles it clouded the tank. I downloaded Red Sea microbubble chart I noticed if I turned off the skimmer the tank cleared so I turned it back on and if I looked in the rear chamber between the heater and the skimmer it was loaded with bubbles when the skimmer was on. I turned the skimmer off and took it out and did a leak test that is in Red sea's diag. chart sure enough the left side of the skimmer near the heater chamber near the bottom of the skimmer was dripping so I called Pinky at Red Sea and she said that doesn't happen often but she would send a new skimmer body, while I was waiting for the new one to arrive I thought I would try to glue the seam so I dried the skimmer and put gorilla super glue on the seam and squeezed it together and after a couple of hours did the leak test again, no leak so I put it back in turned the skimmer on and no more bubbles not even the occasional burst as when the tank was new. The new one arrived today thanks to Pinky and Red Sea for great service.
I don't know if anybody else may have a skimmer with a seam that is leaking but it is worth looking at.

Are you talking about the whole body of the skimmer (the bottom part) to have the leak???

brants - Welcome to the RSM crew! And thanks for posting what you found on the skimmer - that might be very helpful to a lot of RSM owners.

Re: My Microbubbles in RSM SOLVED!

Yes check the whole body of the skimmers seams, the left seam near the bottom was where my leak was. I think you have to check all seams per Red sea's diag. chart.

replace circulation pups?

Has anybody replaced the circulation pumps with another product as a solution to micro bubble problem? I did not have much problem prior to installing a Tunze 9002. Now I have some bubbles and have tried the extended intake mod but it still produces bubbles, it stops when I run only one recirculation pump, doesn't matter which one. any ideas?
