Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

Billdad1 - are you running the 130, the 130D or a 250?

Most of my tips work everytime with the 130D's - re: Pinky insists that the problem is restricted flow... on my 130D this is the case for sure...

Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

Good Day,
After reading this thread and the trouble shooting from Red Sea.

Honestly has anyone rid their Red Sea either 130 or 250 of the dreaded micro-bubbles?

Even after placing extention tubes on the circulation pumps, reducing the size of the Black Foam to about 1-1.5 inches, leveling the tank, and filling up to the top. I still get the dreaded micro-bubbles.

This almost makes a person want to build their own set up and stop with the Red Sea All in One.

Any thoughts or opions?

Cheers

Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

Some (not excessive) microbubbles are not a terrible thing to have. Reefs are not bubble free. One thing you could try is what I've done when switching skimmers (gave up on my RSM skimmer long ago). I just prop an inch thick piece of the coarse black sponge up against the top of the heater pane - so that the top of the sponge is just a bit above the water line in back. The sponge will act as a bubble trap and allow most, if not all, of the bubbles to be trapped and broken before they go over the heater pane, and eventually to the pumps, and then the tank. It won't do anything if the bubbles are generated in the pump chamber, but it should help with bubbles generated by the skimmer. It will be necessary to clean the sponge once a week or so, but it's easy to reach in that location.

I still get a few bubbles once in a while, but they no longer bother me. Most of the time my tank is bubble free.

Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

This is a good idea RM! I might have to move my chiller return line and give this a shot. However, my skimmer never produced microbubbles in my tank. I had it off for three days at one point and still had microbubbles! It has to be pump cavitation from the COD.

Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

Excellent thanks Reefmack.
It so happens I have a extra peice of the Black Foam , did not throw it after after cutting it.

Are the micro-bubbles bad for the fish, it last for about 10-15 min, not white out conditions.
Its more fustrating than anything else.

Cheers

Re: Microbubbles in your RSM? Check here!

I've had total whiteouts when a big Linkia star I had would cover the grate and starve the pumps. The tank looked like it was filled with white paint a few times, and I never lost any life in the tank. I don't think it's good to have the surface of your corals covered in bubbles all the time, but I've yet to see any harm to fish or corals.

I can't say mine has zero microbubbles but close to it. I get a spurt or two every once in a while like a couple times a day.
