| Neon dottyback | Breaking the old RSM back out. After being mocked by Reefmack today I am bringing my RSM out and have started the cleaning process. Wow it is a mess!! I basically dumped it and ran when I moved and it smelled like "add any word for stink here" filled it and pured a bottle of cpr in it to descale. I have a groovy mod for it another of many I have done to it already done. Keep an eye on this post and i will show you all whats up. I have some other mods on RSMreefers site and also I had a skimmer mod that worked great for me but I cant find it at the "other place" and it was very labor intensive I will see if I can find it on my pile of CD's. I will keep you informed!! Dave

Time to get some acrylic and wake up that jigsaw! For the other owners - mbdave has always been one of the RSM "super modders", and he's now threatening to make a "super mod" on his currently empty RSM. Stay tuned for what may be the "mod of all mods" on an RSM!

| Neon dottyback | Re: Breaking the old RSM back out. This is the skimmer mod that I made when the tank was up. [IMG] [/IMG] I could not understand why they made a skimmer with a open bottom? It worked for me but subpar at best.

| Neon dottyback | Re: Breaking the old RSM back out. [IMG] [/IMG] As can be seen here I cut acrylic to fit the openings and glued them in place. I also cut the suction off the pump to make it fit. Notice the grooves cut in the bottom to ensure it will slide in properly.

| Neon dottyback | Re: Breaking the old RSM back out. [IMG] [/IMG]Drilling the hole for the discharge pipe was probably the hardest thing I drilled a smaller hole and honed it out with a dremel at the angle of the skimmer body. I made the discharge pipe around 1/2 inch off the bottom of the floor of the skimmer to hopefully cut down on bubbles but that did not happen as I hoped. ![]()

| Neon dottyback | Re: Breaking the old RSM back out. [IMG] [/IMG]This is the return pump mod I totally disliked the original pump configuration and this change was simple. At first I had it going to a tee with two returns "see on RSMreefers.com" but changed it to one and plugged one of the return holes....."Note; don't use epoxy to plug the hole its ugly" This gave the advantage of being able to let the level in the back drop a little and it only required one pump. With the skimmer mod this worked great [IMG] [/IMG]Here it is in place. ![]()
