Re: Thinking about going topless! Thoughts on this lighting

Why would you want to replace the lighting? Is there a particular coral that you have that you feel needs different lighting than the stock lighting? Or, do you just want an open look? If for the quality of the light, I honestly think the stock RSM lighting is more than adequate for nearly anything you would want to put in your tank. Just replace those bulbs every six months!

I would also go with T-5's. Less heat to worry about in the summer.

Re: Thinking about going topless! Thoughts on this lighting

bryceK - the ALED light was developed by Coral Dynamics - a sponsor of Reef Sanctuary. It seems to be a very good light, and it was developed by a reefer local to my area. Here's a page on the Coral Dynamics site about the ALED:

ALED Information/Specs

I prefer the look of a hood, or in my case a raised (MH/T5) hood, but that's just my personal preference. But, the cooler running of LEDs is also a benefit.
