Re: Ask Red Sea

Hosetail set: Not yet available but will be shortly. Keep an eye out for the mail order sites listing this, or your lfs of course, as they will be able to order them.
Regarding the black plastic strip- there's no reason this should not have been with your MAX as this is a standard component, not something new for the 130D. I suggest you speak to your lfs and ask them to obtain one directly from RS USA.

Re: Ask Red Sea

Steve, I've had my RSM up and running since April 07. Overall I can say I am okay with it but have had the majority of the issues with my tank that people have posted over the years. In most cases I've figured out work-arounds but the one thing I cannot work around is the fans. I've used fans for cooling tanks for years and have never experienced fans that fail at the rate that these fans do. I am on my second set and one of the 2 has failed again. Has Red Sea found and is now supplying better quality fans or are they the same one that were sent to me several months ago? As you know these are not easy to replace in terms of having to disassemble the hood to get to them. What can Red Sea do for me in this regard? Are there alternatives available that will fit in the space Red Sea has provided? I am not content with putting the same ones back only to have to do it again in a few months.

Re: Ask Red Sea

Steveh- I just ordered the black plastic cover strip for the wires/cords last friday, talked to Pinky, and she was going to ship it that day or today. Is there anyway to get a tracking number? I didn't even get a confirmation number or anything to check the status of my order. Thanks.

Re: Ask Red Sea

Mavjoy- I'm in the UK and of course Pinky is in the USA, so please speak to her regarding this one. Cheers.

LPSluver- the fans have recently been upgraded but for more information can I suggest you drop an email to Pinky. Not that it helps you unfortunately, but for the 130D we have of course used the newer fans and they come with quick-connect fixings so they are easier to replace. The fans are inherantly in a fairly aggressive environment and will wear over time, but I have personally found that the newer fans are an improvement.

Doubleduece- I suspect you will find the higher PAR lamps will have only recently arrived in the USA. They will be in branded cartons rather than plain white ones.

Re: Ask Red Sea

Mavjoy - After you do your best to get the wires pushed into the channels, you push down on the covers and slide them left (or right) and they sort of lock in on the side. There may be one designed for each side, but I can't remember if they're interchangeable or not. But, you may have figured all that out already.

Red Sea Alk Pro Test Kit Review

steveh - I got the Red Sea Calc, with the included Alk Pro test kit, and ran the Alk Pro versus my Salifert Alk test. I actually got the same test result with both - 3.6 meq. (10 dKh) and was impressed! I liked the way the Red Sea test also gives a color indication on going past the end point.

BUT, I noticed the same thing with the new Alk Pro kit as I've seen with the test kit that came with the starter kit - the plastic tip of the 1 ml syringe will not stay on - it's too big and falls right off the syringe. Please pass this on to the Red Sea folks in charge of the kits. I had to use the syringe from the Salifert kit - no big deal, but it would be upsetting if I had no other kits to borrow from. Other than this I consider the test to be very accurate.

Now I need to figure out how much Red Sea Calc to dose. How much are you dosing?

Re: Ask Red Sea

Hey Reefmack, not sure what the issue is with the syringe tip as I use all the Pro tests and the syringe stays on fine. Maybe you have an odd one, and we can certainly get a spare sent to you. Just email Pinky and cc me in and we'll sort it for you. The tests are very accurate and if you compare our new Calcium Pro & Iodine to Salifert I think you're be really impressed. Regarding the Calk, we have revised the instructions to make them easier. Drop me an email or PM & I'll happily send them to you.

Re: Ask Red Sea

steveh - I PM'd and emailed you about getting the revised Red Sea Calc instructions. I just started dosing the Calc product today and would like to be sure I'm doing it correctly.

Thanks!

Re: Ask Red Sea

steveh - where are you? Here's another question for you. Is the Red Sea heater totally submersible, or should the top be kept out of the water?

Thanks,
Terry

Re: Ask Red Sea

Sorry guys- been away for 2 weeks. Here's a few answers:
Heater- submersible
Protein skimmer- I would suggest maybe a 6monthly clean. Same applies for the pump chamber. For this one I would use a small pices of hose and syphon out any waste.
Calk- Reefmack I believe you got the new instructions?
Cheers everyone. I'm around again now so will try to catch up on all the other questions on this great forum!

Re: Ask Red Sea

What is the status of the new overflow for use on the older 130 model? Last I heard, it would be available in December.
