That's when you offer the little bugger to someone else with an aptasia problem. There's a nudibranch that has already visited the house of about three people that I know of. That way they don't starve. When it eats all your aptasia, offer it for free to anyone with an aptasia problem with the understanding that when their problem is cleared up they have to give it to someone new for free also

Re: Aiptasia plagues...

Thanks to all for your contributions, interesting point about the Berghia...it might be difficult to find though. And the procedure is just like with dolabellas and algae, once they finish them all, you must give it away before it starves.

I will look up the exact scientific name, because I looked it up in Mr Google and there seems to be a series of berghiae with different colours, and that may mean they eat different things???
I'm more for natural control means, because as some pointed already, chems seemed to spread the plague rather than removing the aiptasia...

Re: Aiptasia plagues...

I had a small problem a while back. And that was just before i stoped feeding. And that is what I belive got rid of them. I had aptasia and bristle worms by the ton. NowI dont think I have any aptasia and just a couple of bristle worms. I know that my anwser to everything allways sems to be "stop feeding" but it really works.

I've had peppermint shrimp work very well. Unfortunately they ate all my feather dusters also.

Re: Aiptasia plagues...

Well I finally bought an Acreichthys Tormentosus, ugly guy though, I'll keep you informed on its diet

Much more easy to get than Berghia nudibranchs...

You got to get rid of these things fast. They reproduce like a *****. Back in the day with my old tank, I had one spawning every 2 minutes. At first I thought they were coral, since it came on one of my live rocks that I bought. A couple of months later they were everywhere. Killing my other corals. I ended up taking all the LR out for a few days and mixed it with about three times as much salt then salt water. And I bought some aiptasia control for the suckers on my coral rocks. I hate aiptasia

I have 2 Peppermint Shrimp and one Aptasia that I know of. The shrimp ignore it and it's not big enough to inject, I just keep an eye on it...

Re: Aiptasia plagues...

? for those of you who have the Berghia. Do they have any chance of surviving with a six line and red corris wrasse? How big do they get? Lerger ones may have a chance in my tank but any small cleaners seem to become lunch rather quickly.

Re: Aiptasia plagues...

I seem to always have one or 2 aiptasia. One keeps re-apearing in the same spot, but it's a tough spot to hit with aiptasia-x. I kill it and then another one appears a week or 2 later.

I asked my lfs about peppermint shrimp and they said that they will eat certain types of corals.

Re: Aiptasia plagues...

My 120g is being overrun with aptasia. I'm going to try some Berghia and see how they do with a six-line. I'll put them in at night when dark and see what happens. I'll post results on this thread. I started out with a few small Aptasia and now probably have around 50-100 from small to large.

So it begins......

Re: Aiptasia plagues...

the six line or any wrasse is likely to eat the nudi's. Thats why I have not gotten any yet. I just cant see dropping $150 to watch my sixline have a few good meals and nothing get done about the aptasia. I tried joes juice and it dint work fro crap. They would appear to die, then a couple days later there was still half an anenome and a few more also (i think it made my problem worse). I am gonna try to inject them with lemon or lime juice and see how that works.
