Re: Substrate

I can't really help my sand from being stirred up - my tomato clown has done so much landscaping that he takes care of it for me.

Re: Substrate

My starfish, in particular, keep everything stirred around BIG time. The brittles have even dug out huge caves under the rocks and testing my rock stacking skills.

I have a lot of CC of I'm not having any issues with it except for the sand along the front edge of the glass. I gotta clean that CC and the glass to make it pretty again!

I also don't think that a 1" bed of CC will release any toxins BUT I have heard that you shouldn't distrub more than 1/16" to 1/8" of the surface of the bed because the bacteria is that close to the surface.

Re: Substrate

I didn't like my choices on the poll so I didn't vote. lol

How fine is this finely crushed coral?

If it's not going anywhere, then I would look into an animal that will clean it for you or like was stated before, clean it in patches so that any repercutions will be minimal.

Does that help Paul?

People come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: Substrate

I use dolomite which is similar to CC. It has been in my tank for 40 years. I clean it with a diatom filter every three or four months. So far, no nitrates.

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.

I'll make the whole damn world jealous if given the money to do so.

Don't make mistakes and learn from them, read and learn how to avoid mistakes.

Re: Substrate

...and I can't/won't add a sifting animal for two reasons; it will kick up particles into the water column, and I only have a 10g, with enough on the bio load.
