I haven't heard that about the primer. I use this silicone tape for a "temporary" seal on the low pressure drains. It works very well untill you get the lengths & such just right.

There is a clear cleaner you can use that once dry is inert. tat is all the purple primer is really. A cleaner for the cement. I have used purple primer for years without any ill effect.
I also like the stuff Jack uses.
The clear stuff is nice if you want to look all neat and stuff.

I would also advise Gorilla Glue being left to the professional. This stuff expands fast and if you use to much it will close up the inside of the pipe.

I was using the purple primer with regular pvc cement. I switched to the blue rain or shine pvc glue, without using primer and I used it on the 1 1/2" return pipe from my sequence barracuda and so far, no leaks.

That pump really puts out a lot of pressure. You can FEEL the water flowing through the pipe.

I shop at a plumbing supply wholesale place and always buy my primer and glue there. It is regular, residential drinking water stuff, except their primer is clear. It makes for a better looking job.
