They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. | Neon dottyback | Re: Light Acclimation I have to select one of the answers, so I chose "yes". However, it's not that simple. For my self, the correct answer is "It depends". If it's a coral that I know has been kept under similar lighting, then there is no need to acclimate then, at least as far as light goes. Also if it's a coral that isn't bothered by bright light, there isn't a need to worry about acclimating to then lighting. Many soft corals, are like this. When in doubt though, I place them on the bottom of the tank, or raise the lighting, or place translucent sheets of plastic over the area of new coral. |

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Light Acclimation I recently heard about doing this with corals. It doesn't seem to be a subject that a lot of people are familiar with?

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Light Acclimation I had the BEST of intentions to do this with my "Candy Cane's" because I had just upgraded my lighting and I honestly just forgot until I noticed they were going from a pretty pink/green to pale whitish. I moved them under a ledge for a couple of days down low and slowly moved them out into the light. As of today they are looking great and full of color. It's been about 4 weeks now and they are IN the tank where I think they will do best. So I don't think it's an exact science but it's always better to "Errr" on the side of caution. Good luck and happy acclimating!! Allen ![]()

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Light Acclimation If i have a piece that I know is very light sensitive then i may acclimate it to the light because I have 400 watt halides on my tank. Also if it is a very expensive piece i may do it also. Other than those exceptions i dont acclimate any corals to the light! Matt |

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: Light Acclimation I put my zoos (only thing I've got so far) on the bottom and had the 150w 14K MH on for 2-3 hours, day 2, 6 hours, day 3, 9 hours, now back to 12 hours. Watching them for any signs of anything. I'll move them from the bottom after a week to a spot about 3 inches off the bottom, which is where I'd like them to stay if they like it.

| Midas Blenny | Re: Light Acclimation I do but it all depends on the coral. Mushrooms and Zoo's I don't, but for the LPS and SPS I do, otherwise it takes 3-6 moths before they start growing again.
