SSB vs DSB vs BB vs PLENUM

if you have to do it all over again, how would you set up your tank? Shallow Sand Bed, Deep Sand Bed, Bare Bottom or Plenum? just gathering ideas.

i just upgraded and went with the Deep Sand Bed

great not nitrate reduction and i love the look as well

SSB for me... I have one in my tank now and wouldnt change a thing

Either a SSB or a DSB with the wisdom to change it out after several years. It can't sink nasties forever

I just replaced my sand and removed my plenum! Nitrates are now 0 with a 3-4 bed. Much nicer!

I like the denitrifying ability of a DSB but eventually it will have to be replaced. In a larger setup this can be a huge project so some people opt for a shallow sandbed or BB tank.

I like BB for ease of maintenance. Never had issues with nitrates with the BB either. I can understand most people don't like the looks however.

SSB or DSB depending on the depth of the tank. I love the DSB but if the tank is short it takes up too much space.

I went with a 3" SB in the MT for looks and a place for the sandlovers, and DSB w/Plenum in the fuge for the benefits it provides.

Shallow Sand Bed, Deep Sand Bed, Bare Bottom or Plenum? just gathering ideas. __________________ 1.20 G pico RR with 2 megaflow kits, aqua c EV180 with mag12, 2x250 DE 12k halides with 2x54 T5 actinic+, 30G phlenum fuge with chaeto, iwaki 55rlt return pump connected to a sea swirl, 4 tunze 6025 inside the main tank for water circulation (2 are modded) 3 Koralias PH(2 #4's and 1 #3) sps,lps,zoas,softies,pink tip BTA tangs - yellow, unicorn, blue hippo, palini and RS Purple Blue Spot Jaw Fish red lyretail anthias pair of spotted mandarin goby wrasse - yellow corris scribble rabbit fish Clown Fish -3 percula high fin shrimp goby clean up crew - various snails and crabs, red linkia star And a 30G AGA softies with clown & diamond head goby

Lighting = 6x250 watts MH, 2x96 watt PC ,and 2x140 watt VHO for a total watt of 1,972 watts . New addition on 4-14-07 of 100 gallon sump and 100 gallon refugium. I think I have lost my mind.
