| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Quarantine Tank size? It can if you have some other media to grow the good bacteria such as a sponge or some bio-balls or something. Personally I do have a small amount of LR in my QT to help with the bio-load but I have it there with the knowledge that if I have a sick fish in the qt and have to treat it that LR will need to be removed and sterilized and then it would be base rock again. I don't have sand because that would be too hard to remove if I needed to treat the fish. Most people though do not have LR in their QT, just a sponge or bioballs or a bio-wheel something like that to house the good bacteria.

| Sea Pen | Re: Quarantine Tank size? what i did, when i set up my QT tank is i did a water change on my 150 and used that water to fill my QT tank. Then for the next 3 water changes i did on my 150 i also did a water change on the QT tank. then i introduced my powder blue. i believe that the water in the QT was very close in parimeters to the water in the 150, thus the shock of moving him to the big tank was minimal. i also put live sand and a small rock from the big tank. there was macroalgae on the rock for the fish to eat. i put up a towel across the front so he wouldnt see the activity goin on in the kitchen. if i had to medicate him i would have taken out the live rock. |
