btw...when switching to a higher intensity light source, is tip bleaching to be expected or is there a way around it?

Re: Time for new lamps - 400w Single Ended

I believe in Dave's case he has 250's but I don't remember the dimensions of the tank but even then I would definitely suggest reducing the photoperiod.

BTW which ballasts are you guys using ?

Re: Time for new lamps - 400w Single Ended

Well lookin at Sanjay's article the XM 10k 400 w bulb has a PPFD of 172 on a M59 ballast. On my reefanatic 250w ballast it had a PPFD of 115 so you can see a noticeable difference in PAR between them.

Re: Time for new lamps - 400w Single Ended

great info Robert...

just worried now.. would love to get the xms... but don't wanna fry anything..

hmm.. maybe XM 14k would be a little better for my transition...

But if i can go up 2" with the 10k and run for like 6hrs - then 8 hrs.. i would go for that!

Hey Billy a little off topic as I know nothing about halides. I'm sure you thought about changin those PC's to T5's. DO IT and you wont regret it. Actinic PC STIIINK compared to T5's, the colors just jump out. Ill be posting some before and after picks of my 29 gal PC to T5 conversion when I get my frame built this weekend.

I think if your patient and see how your corals react you shouldn't have any problems. The XM 10 K's have been around for a while and are a good bulb just figured I would give ya a heads up on acclimation.
