Craig, have you ever tried keeping the slurry over a few

I have a five gallon bucket with a tight lid and it keeps for months. I use it on an as needed basis.

I have decided to stop doing W/C's and just run my skimmer very wet and see what happens. I will use the leftover Crystal Sea salt for emergencies only. All the elements will be added through the daily Kalk addition and 2 part when necessary and foods. This is only a test ! I will keep a close eye on parameters and if anything happens then I'm back to regular W/C's with probably Crystal sea salt. I don't forsee any problems my tank is well established and has a mature SB.

Cool Robert, I do water changes only on an as needed basis as well. Maybe once a month. My salt lasts a really long time!

Robert, I'm curious if you are concerned at all about the loss of magnesium and stontium, or are you planning on adding as a separate supplement when needed?

Nikki in addition to kalkwasser I also use WarnerMarine 2 part which has all the elements I need and then you have food. For example I add a sea vegetable for my Purple Tang and that contains 200% Iodine and 6 % Magnesium so since we have an overabundence of these elements already I don't see a need to suplement them, but I will keep an eye on them for sure and if necessary will suplement or go back to W/C's.

I used Instant Ocean for many years and tired of having to always boost KH and Ca. Tried Oceanic, but not overly impressed.
Currently using OceanPure. Very consistant in their mix. Many hobbyists are now using it. Recommend it highly.

instant ocean i have used it from the start have tried others but like the results with io better

I have used, IO, Reef Crystals and Oceanic. I currently use Sea Chem. I try and maintain levels close to NSW rather than an elevated dKH and CA. Oceanic consistantly tested >550 in CA and <7 in Alk. IO was low in everything (especially Mg.). SeaChem (with the exception of my last batch) consistantly tests out at
425 CA
9.0 Alk
1290 mg
The reaction of my inhabitants has been most positive.

Biggest disappointment has been with the P04 .04 on hanna meter. But I can deal with that. One other concern is elevated boron levels. As soon as I receive a current kit from Habib (salifert) I will know how big of a concern. It also carries the highest level of Potassium which is pretty big in coloration.
