Re: How many people have refugiums?

It's on its way CPR Aquafuge with the 1200 MJ powerhead.
Can't wait, the reason I got mine is because my wife loves the mandarin gobies and I want to make sure I have a good established pod population before adding one. Because everything I have read about them, is that without the pods, they more than likely die of starvation, since it's hard to get them to eat anything else.

Have a 37 gallon hex under the stand dedicated to a refugium and a separate sump

Re: How many people have refugiums?

I have a 5.5 gal underneath my 92corner tank. The fug and the tank share the sump.

Re: How many people have refugiums?

I'm planning on adding a refugium to increase my critter population (nitrates & nitrites are zero). With a remora skimmer on the back, and a HOT filter (I run about an hour a day) on the back, my only option is to place on the side. My acrylic tank has a 4 inch edge on the circumference of the tank top, so I plan on using small piece of adhesive backed velcro on the top, then I can use metal L brackets around the base of the refugium. A pvc extension will be used for the inflow and outflow into the tank. I want gravity feed back into the tank to eliminate flood potential and to make an easier journey of the critters back into the tank. Any thoughts on this???

Weso, Sounds like a good idea as long as there is something else holding it other than just the velcro.

Re: How many people have refugiums?

In a BB refugium with chaeto only. Would a basket full of rubble make a good home for pods?

Re: How many people have refugiums?

The smaller the rubble the more surface area. Larger pieces make good pod hiding places. Ditto on the cheato for BB and DSB.

Re: How many people have refugiums?

In the process of overflowing another 2 or 3 gallons of water on floor, I managed to acclimate a 9 by 14" plastic basket full of rubble. Seems One could cover the whole bottom of a ref with LR in baskets instead of laying on the bottom, They could easily be shaken every so often to remove any detrius thats built up.

Re: How many people have refugiums?

use a 29 gallon with NO lights below the 90 display. Have rock, skimmer, phosban reactor, and cheto in it. I think it does help the overal health of tank. I woudl have too much bioload in the display without it.

Re: How many people have refugiums?

when i decided to setup my 55 gallon as a reef system( i am still new at this) i had a 15 galon tank drilled and it is my refugium, my overflow drains into the refugium then to a 20 gallon sump, then pumped back to 55, in the 20 gallon there is a skimmer, heater, and pump, i have ordered some cheato for the refugium but it is not here yet!
