Re: Skimmer Choice

only advice i can really give on skimmers is this. dont skimp.. save and get a good one.. especially important to overskim if u are a heavy feeder. ( looks at woodstock)

I made this mistake and paid for it dearly.

oh.. and DONT get JEBO Hang-on skimmers.. they SUCK

Re: Skimmer Choice

LOL!!! Yeah, I do feed alot as Yarr mentioned I even upgraded my AquaC Remora pro skimmer's pump in an attempt to skim more; I also do large frequent water changes. My nitrAtes are 0 - 5 ppm so I am not complaining and my fish are very healthy

Re: Skimmer Choice

Depends on the skimmer. I ran my Remora pro with a mag7 wor a while, but had a problem with controlling the wetness of the skimmate, so I backed down to a Mag 5, and had better luck.
Most HOB skimmers won't stand much of an upgrade of pumps, as they are marginal to begin with.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: Skimmer Choice

Yeah, i switched out the pump provided (turbo pump I think, with a venturi built in...worst pump ever) with my Berlin with a Mag 7 and a Kent venturi. It was a pretty good skimmer then, but I still think an ASM/Euroreef or a AquaC could have beat it out.

Re: Skimmer Choice

Anyone know about a Precision Marine HOT, it's a FREEBIE ! It has a MJ1200 on it right now. I would think it has to be better than the seaclone 150 that i'm using now. Marine Depot has it rated for a 100g, but the seaclone is rated for 150g, yea....riiigghhhttt!
