| Bryozoan | GA Aquarium Pics Hi everyone! I decided to take a road trip from NC to GA this weekend to visit the new aquarium. The place really is unbelievable! For anyone thinking of making the trip, it's definitely worth it. I took my roommate's Nikon Coolpix 3200 with me and snapped some pictures. Unfortunately, I didn't get much time to practice with the camera. A lot of the pictures came out blurry because there was no flash photography, but some of them turned out good. The better ones can be seen here: http://community.webshots.com/user/pipbarr It is broken down into folders for each of the five sections of the aquarium. Under the "Georgia Aquarium" folder are pictures of the building and the lobby. There were lots of touch tanks throughout the aquarium, including a coldwater anemone/starfish/urchin tank. Some of the highlights were the 6.2 million gallon Ocean Voyager tank, an overhead river throughout the entire River Scout exhibit, and the 160,000 gallon reef. According to the guidebook, the placed five tons of concrete rocks in a fiji reef for a year to seed them for the giant reef tank. Also, if anyone knows where I could host them, I've got about 15 short videos of some of the animals. Hope you enjoy, Philip

| Limpet | Re: GA Aquarium Pics Now I REALLY want to go!!! But I have to wait until after Christmas for the funds. I wonder how they keep the water quality good enough to have anemones in a touch tank? I know how yucky kid's hands can get, no matter how clean you try to keep them. It's a kid's nature to touch the nastiest the thing they can find.

| Reef Lobster ![]() | Re: GA Aquarium Pics I visited just a few days ago. While it is a bit pricey ($22 a head), it was certainly well worth the trip. The setup of the Pacific rim reef is VERY nice, although I would have liked to have seen more "real" corals. However, they are going about it the right way, starting with frags and letting them grow out (or so it appeared). To me, the big, deep water tank makes the aquarium. I sat down and watched for a good 45 minutes, and could have stayed for hours. My camera is not the best when it comes to tank photographs, but I will post a few of my better ones. They do have a behind the scenes tour for another $30 or so I believe. If you go, it might be interesting to check that out as well. I simply didn't have the time. Also, I would reccommend ordering early online. This place makes the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago look like a fish bowl. Take er easy Scott T. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Tubeworm | Re: GA Aquarium Pics I have the fortunate disposition of living with the Georgia Aquarium in my backyard. I've been twice thus far, and would highly recommend going during non-peak times, but with the newness of the aquarium, I'm not sure that there is any at the moment. I was able to go for a business function with no crowds, which made the experience infinitely better! I still haven't been to see the new whale sharks that they added (Trixie and Alice). The second time I went was the night before they arrived! I cut some video I took together and made a nice little montage on an entry in my blog at http://www.jmcrane.com/weblog/2006/05/02/busy-weekend/. You can also see the pictures that I took that day in one of my photo galleries at http://www.jmcrane.com/weblog/lazyes...rgia-aquarium/. Hope you all can soon come marvel at the Georgia Aquarium with us! John |

| Tubeworm | Re: GA Aquarium Pics Philip, Forgot to mention - if you'd like, you may host the video on my site. I am going to generate an aquarium section in the near future anyway to dedicate to the Georgia Aquarium and my own knock off of it (newly setup 20 gallon tank). Just PM me if you are interested and I can set you up with access. John |
