Re: New Computer for B-Day

If you look at the bottom right croner of one of those pics I posted you will see an opened computer case. I'm still runnning a K6-III+ 350mhz OC'ed to 600mhz.
It was my video and music box, I'm trying to find some larger drives for it, getting hard to find non SATA or Ultra ata drives now. But it will be the music server box pretty soon. Runs cool and quiet and stable.
Not sure what I'm going to do with the AMD 1.33 Tbird setup.

Wit, did you ever try one of those sandwich type coolers for that cpu?

Hey wit need a spare processor for that board???

No... I can run duals off my new card, that old PCI card just wouldn't kick it... I will see what I can do when I get an LCD monitor...

Re: New Computer for B-Day

LCD Vs. CRT....ill take a CRT anyday, especially for gaming. LCD's just dont refresh fast enough for me, if your plying a game with heavy graphics and background movement. and i think a CRT gives an overall better motion picture.

im also thinking of picking up an "all-in-wonder card to use on my dual-mon rig. that way i can TV-tivo and blah blah~

My roomate has a viewsonic 17 inch that I believe is 8ms. Other than the limited view angle it is just as good as my old viewsonic 17" CRT, IMO. 19" sub 8ms LCD's are out as well.
I'm not an expert on displays at all, but from what I understand the difference between an 8ms and 4 ms display would be like the differnce in gaming at 90 fps and 120 fps.
My soyo however is 16ms. Not great for gaming, I can tell in certain situations like when turning around really fast in a game the LCD doesn't keep up. Which I really don't mind since the main game I play is EQ2.

AFA quake 4, great game. Not incredibly difficult at normal difficulty. But I started playing FEAR. I'm loving that game. The graphics are awesome, and the AI is crazy.

Re: New Computer for B-Day

I downloaded the Demo for F.E.A.R., scarey..... I will get after the price drops a little. I did really like Far Cry, thought that had great graphics and gameplay. I loaded URU last night, just to bump everything up to max and watch my video card scream. I never did finish it either, so I will play on that for awhile. My son and I play Dungeon Seige II over our LAN also, I finished it in single player mode, not a bad game.

Re: New Computer for B-Day

Never got into Dungeon SeigeII, just never had the time to try it. We played Dungeoun SeigeI when I lived on campus, but some of the guys would enable all these cheats that made me hate playing. Not like I was very good at the game to begin with
I'm really liking the MMORPGs now like EverquestII, World of Warcraft etc. Can't really win, so I keep sending my money to the game companies

Re: New Computer for B-Day

I used to play online a lot back when, played Command & Conquere A LOT, but that was a pretty good game for dial up, played with people from around the world. Then it just turned into a playground for punk kids. Don't venture into game rooms much more. I do play over the net with people I know though.

Re: New Computer for B-Day

ahhh, I remember C&C, red alert had great cut scenes, I thought it was soooo cool. I used to get my butt handed to me sometimes though. For some reason I don't manage resources well I guess. Games like that and starcraft a 6 year old has a possibility of beating me.
Another one I had fun with was the first Delta Force. It didn't get the best reviews, but I though the graphics were great and the online play was a blast. One of the few mission based FPS you could play as a squad and have fun. Or play capture the flag, deathmatch etc.

Re: New Computer for B-Day

Another I played real hard was Ghost Recon and the 2 expansions. That was a great game, too bad they skipped GR II and only did it for consoles.... Had 3 pc upstairs set up on the LAN for that one. Yelling and carrying on when we played team, dead silent when we played last man standing... LOL.. I hear GR 3 will be released for the PC..... wheres my sniper riffle????
