Re: New Computer for B-Day

I tried to take pics of the inside. I haven't got posting pics down yet...toooo small when I am finished.

This is supposed to be a liquid cooling system in the second pic.

Advanced Cooling and Acoustic Technology
The innovative liquid-cooling system and advanced noise-reduction technology of the VAIO® RC Digital Studio™ PC enables premier performance without the heat or noise of traditional fan-cooled PC configuration.

Liquid cooling? Cool, literally

My system sounds like a cross between a vaccum cleaner and my girlfriends hairdryer Maybe not quite that bad...

Re: New Computer for B-Day

I guess the Pentium D runs fast and hot needs liquid...

Hey Mike it looks like a well worked station to me...and has everything you need. Is your TV and dish hooked up to your system? I have the windows XP media center with this computer and yet to hook anything up, maybe project for today...try anyway.

It is interesting to see everyones computers in which they surf RS...

Re: New Computer for B-Day

Nope, no tv or such on this. I do have a PC I built for a jukebox. It is in a nice HTPC case, and is running 4am's Music Console for the interface. I built an infared reciever for it and use WinLIRC and Girder to control the unit. So to sum it up, I have quite a few albums, which songs can be easily selected from a remote control, and sent 'bit perfect' to my reciever via optical cable.

Re: New Computer for B-Day

The back of the computer has an optical plug, s-video and such...I guess I better get to work on this and hook it up so I too can watch TV while at my desk.

Re: New Computer for B-Day

The TV is hooked up to the computere's S video, but that is it. Hopefully the next graphics card I get will have VIVO or I'll get a TV tuner card to allow me to do DVR or TIVO stuff.
BTW, The Pentium D's don't run all that much hotter than the prescott Pentiums. One would think a dual core CPU would run much hotter, but apparently they don't really. I know my Prescott core runs hot enough already.

Re: New Computer for B-Day

Yea I did a lot of investagating, spent the money on good memory to get a slight overclock, a good fan and put in the kitty for LCD. The dual core, for me , wasn't enough bang for the buck...

Someday it will be, but right now there aren't enough multithreading apps unless you are into viedo/photo or music editing.
This does everything I need, plus I'm a tinkerer, I like overclocking. Been doing it since I overclocked a 486 years ago to a whopping 25mhz , then numerous PII's, and AMD K6-2's and K6-III series. Overclocking isn't as fun now to me though, because it is all done through the bios, I miss the jumpers

Re: New Computer for B-Day

That is the main reason for getting this computer: making videos and all of my photo programs...I did get the media up and running I can now watch Tv on one screen while on-line and my photo programs on the other...I have made the live tv screen about 6"x10"s and have half of the other screen to work with as well, I like this

I like all of this computer chat...thanks everyone

Re: New Computer for B-Day

Nice. Do you know what graphics card your vaio comes with? I really want VIVO capability on my next graphics card. ATI needs to hurry up with some new AIW cards.
