I'm amazed that countries that arent going to be allowed to participate in the rebuilding of Iraq, (and subsequent monetary gains that go with it....) because of their lack of cooperation during the dangerous and dirty work that got things to where they are now, are crying foul. What, did they think that since our people and our allies personnel fought and died while they refused to contribute ANYTHING, that they should be allowed to benefit from it? I'm not an advocate of war. I spent 5 months in Mogadishu, Somalia, I've seen what it does to people, families, survivors, and even the victors....but if a fight is inevitable, going at it at anything less than 110% causes more casulties. I can understand that they felt strongly against our position, and our rationale for doing what we did, but once the conflict started, all the bickering should have ended. It didnt. We went in anyway. We won. They criticized, and pointed fingers. We lost good people. They continued to tell us to do it on our own, and refused to contribute ANYTHING. We lost more good people. We made things happen, at a cost. And now these countries are shocked that we wont let them play. We offered to let them in earlier, even asked for their help, and were told to do it ourselves...so now we are. Whats so surprising? I'm not trying to aggravate or antagonize any of the Canadian members here, just pointing out how many Americans here in the Midwest feel about the whole issue.

| Torch coral | Maxx I agree, but dont blame the Canadian people, blame that damn french fry we have running the country, he made the decession not the people of Canada. From what I can gather there are Canadians serving in the US army in Iraq. We also have troops in Pakistan, fighting side by side with the US troops. MINIATUS Canadian and damn proud of it. ![]() |

| Limpet | RELATIONS WITH IRAQ The three largest exporters to Iraq were Russia, France and Germany. Go figure. Now that the time has come to rebuild Iraq, these countries want to get in on the $billions of contracts to pad their own pocketbooks. How about the ad in eBAY: For sale: French infrantry rifle......never fired, dropped once! |

Please don't think I'm blaming Canada, I'm not. Your country's leader made the decision to stay out of the US/ Iraq war. Not you personally. I understand this. Leaders are responsible for a nations actions, however, the nations people (usually, and certainly in this case) are responsible for placing their leaders in a leadership position. I know many Canadians myself and tho they talk funny , they are wonderful people. I don't doubt that there are many Canadians serving in Iraq wearing US uniforms. During WWII (Prior to Pearl Harbor) many Americans had to quit the serving the the US armed forces and go to either China or the UK in order to fight for what they believed in because at that time the US wasn't involved in the conflict. Gen Chennault's Chinese Air Force, pilots that enlisted in the RAF...etc...so its not like we havent seen this before... and I find it incredibly brave to do so. Wearing an American uniform in Iraq is not smart thing to do these days. However that still doesnt change the fact that many countries chose not to aid in any way, shape, or form, when the US announced that it was going in. Thats fine, I don't have a problem w/ your country's decidion to not join in. The US is a big proponent of democracy, this means you (just a generalization, not you specifically Min) can have the opinions that we're a bunch of boisterous children that you don't wanna babysit. And thats fine. But why should countries who havent risked anything, and in fact pointedly said no way when asked, get a chance to make money at rebuilding Iraq? I remember it being mentioned by the white house earlier, that if France wanted to contribute, they could donate goods and services towards rebuilding, but they werent going to be allowed to make a profit. They said no. I'm sure that if Canada approached it the same way, the US would be more than happy to allow them to donate goods and services, just not make money on it. Min, the Japanese are sending troops into Iraq as aprt of a international peace keeping force, (not many only 200 or so initially. And I don't think that they plan on sending more than 500 total.) But the last time Japanese troops were off of Japanese soil was WWII. So this is a big deal. Less than 9% (according to some poll) of the country supported this action. So the Prime Minister of Japan may not survive re-election. But he believed so strongly that his country should support the US in this case that he's willing to risk it. I'm not saying that the US is always right, Bush has managed to aggrevate/irritate/alienate alot of nations by his foreign policy, but he sticks his ground on tough issues. I don't agree w/ everything the man has done, but I admire his resolve.Probably the easiest thing I can point out Min, All of the nations that are banned from helping build Iraq arent being screwed from money, nobody has taken anything from them. They're just not being allowed to make money on a situation that they didnt want to help out with originally. Does that make sense? Nick

| Reef Shark ![]() | Min, most of the american people don't hold any grudge against our neighbors to the north. You've always stepped up to the plate in the righteous fights before. I think the memory of the unfortunate incident in Afghanistan played a big part in the decision to stay out of Iraq. I personally knew a few good Canuck's during my time in the environs in & around DaNang 30 yrs ago. Good lads all. No hard feelings for sitting this one out, eh? |

| Regular Guy Moderator ![]() | The United Statse and Canada. To exemplify the closeness between our two countries and the Christian heritage we both share, here are the lyrics to the two anthems our countries are known by: Oh Canada! Oh Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide, Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee. Former God keep our land glorious and free! Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee. Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee! God Bless America! God Bless America. Land that I love Stand beside her, and guide her Thru the night with a light from above. From the mountains, to the prairies , To the oceans, white with foam God bless America My home sweet home! Former President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister Jean Chretien are two examples of what our countries are NOT about, eh! Alan ![]()
