| Golden Moray ![]() | Okay, I'm going to break down and raise the white flag here. I cannot figure this out. Home networking between 2 PC's running Win XP Professional should be easy, right? NOT! LOL Okay, here's the deal.... Don's Dell (I'll call it "A"), used to be mine. It used to be networked with a 1996 Gateway running Win '95 with no problems. The Gateway is no longer. My PC ("B") is the new PC. Also a Dell. Both are connected via a Linksys router (not wireless). Internet sharing works fine (both PC's are connected to the internet with no problem). I am trying to run the network setup wizard on B (my new Dell). Either it doesn't work, or I lmanage to loose my internet connection altogether. I'm not sure which choices to make in the "wizard". I guess I'm making the wrong ones, LOL If I look under "Network Connections" on "B" (my PC), I see 2 things: "1394 Connection Enabled 1394 Net Adapter" and ... "Local Area Connection Enabled Intel (R) PRO/100 VE Network" Okay, anyone want to hold my hand through this? I don't have a problem connection to the internet on either PC, but I want to be able to share files/folders, as well as the printer (currently connected to "B"). Thanks MUCH for any help!!

| Reef Painter | On computer A can you connect to the hidden C share on computer B? To find out click on the Start button and go to run. Then type \\Computer_A_Name\c$ If you are asked to login, use the administrator name and password. If that doesn't work, try pinging the other computer. Go to the run window again and type cmd. This will open a DOS command screen. Then ping the IP address of the other computer by typing ping nnn.nn.nn.nn (replace the n's with the IP Address. You can also ping by computer name if you would like... Did any of this help/work? |

| Reef Painter | Is you domain set up on both machines? There IS another way we can tackle this. I have a remote connect software that allows me to control your desktop thru the internet. I use it to troubleshoot my client's pc at work. If you are interested, drop me an email. You've got my address, right? C |

| Fish Addict ![]() | john is correct that zonealarm is blocking the port, in order for you to access other printers and files on another pc, you have to disable the firewall. Anther thing too, check the printers and files you want to share, and make sure that they are shared on the network. In order to use the printer from a remote pc, you need to manually install it from the remote pc. (go into the printers file in the control panel click add printer, and choose network printer) I'm sure that you've done all this already, but just in case you missed a step The other thing too, is if you can successfully run the network wizard on the old pc, make the network startup disk for the new one, and it will automatically set it up for you on the new pc.
