I loce cats.
What a cutie...and yeah, looks like will enjoy your furniture. Mine never took to scratching posts so they needed the front claws removed.

If you ever saw how they did that, you probably wouldn't do it again. they do however, make little nail covers so they can't scratch.

we have 4 and only 1 scratches at the furniture, his name is lexi, we call him monster!!

Yea I've already called the vet I'm getting him de-clawed when he's old enough. He mostly stays in my room and he goes wild in here climbing up my bed with those nails. I have egyption cotten sheets and he's scratching them all up. But that's ok he can tear up what ever he wants too.

Re: My new kitten!!!

We did that nail cover thing, too.
One of my cats had to go back to the clinic because one of his pads was torn up during the surgery.
Trust me, with everyone in this house getting cut on half the time, I would do it again.

I hear you on that though, I have thought about doing it my self sometimes (JK, I would never do that), my biggest fear was one of them getting out and not being able to defend themselves, or climb a tree quickly.

I live in a rural area in AZ, lots of coyotes.

What an adorable baby.
I know you are having lots of fun with your little monster. Any interest in the tank yet?

They still have the back claws. I have had cats all of my life...we've had 2 who did not need declawing...one who really needed to be declawed but remains completely intact (Left the furniture alone but has worn down the screen doors, and the wooden door frames, my dad's face and arms....). Mine didn't get declawed until they were 5-6 months old and wouldn't have been if they left the new couches alone. One still thinks he has claws and still attacks the couch daily.

My sister in law lives out in the boons of Arizona, as well, so I know about the coyote situation.

Re: My new kitten!!!

He's gonna be a strickly inside cat. He only goes outside now if I'm going somewhere....He's so little he fits in my purse.

I think he was taken from his mom too early because he has some serious sepration anxiety when I leave. My room mate says that he cries all night while I'm at work and then when I get home he runs to me and stays right at my feet meowing until I pick him up. Then he purrs LOUD and still meows for about 30 mins.

Re: My new kitten!!!

That last pic is so cute!
We have all of our cats declawed and microchipped. The last one had laser surgery and it made a huge difference.
We were looking at cats last night. I'm trying to convince him that he won't notice just one more cat on the bed. We're only up to 3.
We just built them a special enclosure so the cat box is in the garage. There is a cat door between the downstairs bathroom and the garage that leads to a big cage so they can kind of get away. It's by a vent in the garage so they can get the outside smells....and watch me do laundry.

Re: My new kitten!!!

I've worked as a Vet tech for 22 years and the only problem I ever had regarding declawing is when someone would bring their older/heavy weight cat in to have it done usually after purchasing new furniture.
I have 4 cats and all of them have their front claws removed and they were done by the age of 4 months. They all got Torbugesic (pain meds) after surgery and healed without any issues.
Over all these years, I've probably seen 2 cats that came back with infections and that was mostly human error. Not using shredded paper like your supposed to or letting them run all over the house as soon as they get home. The one thing you don't want to do is break the scabs that have formed and cause bleeding.

Anyway, he's such a handsome little guy! I'm sure you will have many years of enjoyment together!

Oh, regarding soft paws....we had a few clients who did use them and I know that you need to trim the cats claws first and keep in mind that as the nail grows out the soft paw will fall off and need to be reattached.
Also, sometimes the cats would pull them off as they were cleaning their paws.

Re: My new kitten!!!

The one cat I had to take back in kept messing with his paws, so he bled everywhere. Had to get one of those nifty collars so he couldn't touch his feet.

Super entertaining to watch him try to round corner and get his face stuck on the wall...at least that part was amusing.

laser surgery?? hmmm I'd might have done that. mine are way too old now. and as i said monster is the only "bad" kitty, doesn't do it too much.
