Well, you know.....To each their own, Leave them alone.....its their business, not really any of ours. Hate to see them not here anymore. They were are really nice addition. Booze was awesome, and Scott, well, never had issues with anything, very understanding, friendly, courteous, a good friend.

No, no, no.

Doni meant messages that have been sent to us.

Let me address this privacy issue first (though it's the first I've heard of it)

I'm assuming by email you mean private messages. If someone is saying that they can be read by certain people, that's correct simply by the nature of the software - All private messages are saved on the database just like all posts. That's how you have them saved when you come back, can organize them into folders, etc.

OK, so anything in a database can theoretically be read by someone with access to that database. That means me, and the company that hosts our site, and anyone else with access.

Now, let me be clear... I do not and have not read people's private messages. First of all, it would take a serious amount of effort to crack into the database and do that... and secondly, I have neither the time nor the inclination.

We depend on members to forward staff anything they find objectionable in a Private message, including spam. When they forward it, we then take action. So, just know that someone can forward us a PM just like they can an email, and in that case, yup, we'll read it.

So... to clarify...

1. Anyone with server access on ANY FORUM could potentially access private messages.

2. I don't do that.

Travis

Re: OT: Closed chronicles

Well after reading a few posts over there on that other site i was shocked to see what some members here will say to look cool or what ever by tossing RS under the rug. Not very nice. But this has shown me a few things about respect. I am very sorry peoples feelings got stomped on over not being made mod. IMO they lost the focus with that. We are here to help and learn about this wonderful hobby. Not have power trips and status.
People asked for change and they got it. Myself included. My new position was not my goal. In the past i have seen new members with very little time made Mod over me and i had no resentments. All i care about is the well being of this forum. I think the staff and members do an awesome job here and that is why i have continued to chose RS as my home reefing forum.
I hope you all see the changes and like them. If not please post your concerns in the suggestion box! Now i can help to make the changes in the right direction, so feel free to share your feelings with me in PM also.

Re: OT: Closed chronicles

OK now let me address the issues of Dentoid and Sasquatch.

I don't want to get into specifics with them, because they've both added quite a bit tro the site and I have nothing but respect for them, so let me make a couple of general points:

We do listen to you, and we did act on some issues that were brought up. But we don't just make snap decisions here- just like in a reef tank, we believe only bad things happen fast. We were working behind the scenes on the solutions we have since implemented, but some people grew impatient.

Secondly, every time we add new moderators, we risk alienating some of our most valuable members who think they have earned the position or are otherwise entitled to it. This is one significant reason why we take the decision to add new mods very seriously. We have many quality members here, and simply can't make all of the people who contribute here daily a moderator.

Honestly, the reaction of someone who wasn't made a moderator "taking their ball and going somewhere else" confirms our decision to NOT make them a moderator.

I do my best to keep everyone happy. Some people, in the end, either don't want to be happy or expect more than I can give them.

Now, I will be closing this thread as it's time to move on. I will only add that Dentoid and Sasquatch are both welcome here any time, and we appreciate all that they've added to the community and wish them only the best.

Travis
