Who knows what about solar panels?

We are buying a new house and would like to get solar panels and go green.

We will have a hot tub, so we already have heating panels for that, but we would like solar panels to run the house, where in the heck do I start? Everything I have looked at online just tells the price and the wattage, that doesn't help me. Is there additional cost, ie: installation, wiring, etc?

Stace right now this is a HOT Topic (Pun intended) due to everyone being "Green Sensitive".

In a nut shell YES additional costs as you guessed. Not only do you need them installed, and wired you need to worry about other items like "Electrical Storage" etc. Let me look around and if I find any GOOD links I'll shoot them to you.

I'm tickled your thinking about them.... they have some a LONG ways lately!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Who knows what about solar panels?

We definately want to do them, if anything it's stupid in our eyes not to! Such a big house with 3 or more tanks running, with normal life operating to, why pay for the electric when we can buy solar panels that definately pay themselves off over time. Al that would be great if you find a good article, my google skills are weak today apparently.

I'm just tickled you're looking into an Energy Alternative. When Julie and I build the next house it will be GREAT (Heck maybe even literally) and I DO see Solar involved in it heavily!!

Re: Who knows what about solar panels?

I would like to, but like I said I have not a clue what I'm getting into. So once I see the prices I may be scared away...But don't count me out yet.

Re: Who knows what about solar panels?

We're planning on looking into it too. Seems like it's going to be the way to go, although Boomer said (is it Calif??) his state doesn't pay you back for the extra energy you might provide to the grid. It's considered a "donation."

Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Re: Who knows what about solar panels?

Yeah some states don't pay you for "Sell Back" but that's ok too. Just imagine what you're doing for your own finances as well as the environment. Every little bit helps!! Plus the Fed Govt has tax breaks for "Alternative Energy" so that should help as well.

Re: Who knows what about solar panels?

Yeah it'd be nice to get paid back from the extra energy, but if that doesn't happen than I am not to worried about it. On one of the links that Al provided you can find out your states incentives and everything, I believe it is the last one.
