Exctly. when I met with the surgeon a couple of weeks ago that's what I suggested. Know what he said next????

Yeah that's exactly what it is... the trouble is to find out if it's just an inflamed nerve or something "mechanical" that needs to be fixed to prevent nerve damage. That's where we are now.... Friday I should know a LOT more

Let us know when the diagnosis is clear. In the mean time, take good care of yourself, eat well, and reduced weight will lessen the inflamation.

Ok fairly GOOD news! At least for now No surgery! The "nerve block" reduced the problem by about 75% and he said if I will "Take care of myself" and keep myself under control that this type of thing should clear up on it's own in 6-8 weeks AS long as I don't do anything to aggravate it. He said I was lucky in this one instance.

The disc is torn but only slightly and only "Oozed" a minimal amount of the liquid out which irritated the nerve and reduced the size of the nerve cavity. That initial nerve cavity was 1.6CM but due to the tear it's at .89CM. With the current improvements he suspects it will do just fine as long as I don't re-damage it before it repairs itself. He said, "If you screw around, don't take care of it and you re-injure it in the next 6-8 weeks I can assure you the next step is SURGERY! If I were you I would consider myself on light duty for 8 weeks and then EASE back into your normal life style."

So that's my goal. Light Duty... restricted "rotational" activities and no heavy lifting for 8 weeks.

I am "eligible" for 2 more nerve blocks if I need them and he said I would probably need/want at least 1 more before it's over. But as of right now I am released with an understanding that MY future is fully in MY own hands. I have an "Open Appointment" for additional pain pills or the next nerve block.

So there ya have it... I'd ok but not GREAT!! Could be better but Heavens I could be a LOT worse! MANY prayers were answered this morning

That's great news. That is the kind of doctor I like - straightforward, to the point, and no sugar coating.

Light duty = more time to sit at hours on end in front of the computer and answer questions

Exactly! No guessing or wondering... he shoots straight from the hip. And he's a nice person! He always stops to talk when I see him out and about. Very nice and professional man.

Thanks Craig! I'll probably give you a shout later on. I've got a 1:20 appointment that I've NOT prepared for (I didn't know about it till JUST now) so I gotta try to put some #'s together...

I've called my "Physical Trainer" who is a GREAT friend and he said, "Let's work on your mind and spirit during these 8 weeks and once you're ready we will start to gradually work on your core strength and conditioning." Sounds pretty logical to me.

I'll give you a shout later on buddy!! Life is GOOD
