OT: Ever wonder what's REALLY in that sand on the beach?

Each Grain of Sand a Tiny Work of Art | Earth Science | DISCOVER Magazine

There are some pretty cool pics in there, and some of the other galleries are nice as well.

Cool! I've seen star-sand before. In fact, I have several small bottles of it here from my last trip to Okinawa (which, by the way is where I took the picture used in my avatar).

Re: OT: Ever wonder what's REALLY in that sand on the beach?

I look through thousands of grains of sand every day in the lab. Foraminifera , like the little puffy white star, are what I am doing my research on. It's really amazing some of the stuff you see in the grains under the scope, I never thought a little glob of dirt could be so pretty!

Yeah I"m wondering what Jersey sand would look like. I'm afraid it might bite you.

Us human animals think we're all that. That sand is much prettier than any of us are!

Makes me think that I really can't take any thing for granted. Beauty is in the very smallest things if only we take the time to look.

WOW! That is awesome. Makes one want to slow down and take more time to really see things.
