OT: Happy Earth Day!!

Today is Earth Day!

Let's all do our part to try and make our lives at least a LITTLE more GREEN!

Turn off those lights as you leave the room.
Take a walk instead of driving to your local store for small items. (Your health may improve)
Think GREEN

Have a GREAT Day!!!

This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Don't forget to NOT recycle!!! Except for aluminum cans, it actually costs more in labor, $ and resultant waste to recycle.

Re: OT: Happy Earth Day!!

Al, I like that pic enough that I've stolen it...

We were at the Costco in a neighboring city yesterday. They had 10 packs of the 13 watt CFL's for $6.89 after the PG&E instant rebate. OUR electrical utility (not PG&E) only offers a $10 credit if you buy $20 or more of the bulbs...so, I've been running around this morning swapping bulbs. I have a few that I can't swap out...they're on dimmers and MOST CFL's can't be used with dimmers. (not these cheapo's for sure) and I'm not ready to spend several $$ each for the dimmable ones...yet. I have 3 of the small "puck" lights in my desk/hutch that use 20 watt halogen bulbs. Once I find a decent LED replacement for those...they're gone.

Re: OT: Happy Earth Day!!

Unfortunately, reefers are one of the least Green hobbyists. With our metal halide lights, pumps, heaters, chillers. Combined, we probably suck up enough energy to power a small, third world country!

I've done the same thing. I've gone through and replaced EVERY bulb in the house except maybe 4... 1 dryer, 1 oven, 1 Microwave, 1 dimmable in the bathroom (it will dim but the NOISE it makes will drive you crazy). I'm trying to do my share and "Lead by example". I just made and printed an "Earth Day" sheet and put it into everyone's mailbox here. It suggest stuff like "turn off empty room light, conserve water, walk to store, and car-pool. There is SO much more we can do.

Did you know that if your electric company is a participant in certain incentive programs you can potentially make your home a ZERO energy home for FREE! Yeah that's right.. FREE! By the time you factor in rebates and other monetary incentives it's possible to pay NOTHING (net at the end of the year) for going GREEN!

I wish...we are serviced by a public utility that is VERY tight with rebates. We installed over $9000. in new windows last November...argon-filled, tinted, vinyl replacement windows that are highly energy efficient...I can't even qualify for the puny rebate they offer for window film...You'd think these windows would be worth a sizeable rebate...and in some utility areas, they would be...but not here. (but I did get a whopping $200 tax credit...)

Re: OT: Happy Earth Day!!

Well I tried to be green today, I closed the valve on my allmig bottle, mainly co2 when I wasnt using it, and I didnt waste any gas by needless braking, Im going to Mom's for dinner so the cooking is on her footprint lol, we did change our big pond pump 12 amp to a very similar gph tank pump and it reduced our electric bill by 240.00 in 12 months, and thats just about what I paid for the pump, but then I did add a few new TV's and a couple of tanks aww crap, you cant win
