I don't really follow an eating plan other than I try to eat healthy and in moderation. I LOVE salads, but instead of using bottled dressings with all the fat and calories, I make my own with balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper and sundried tomatoes. I eat chocolate, ice cream, all the bad stuff, but I'll have 1 piece of a dove bar or 2 scoops of ice cream. I don't think that we do ourselves any justice by denying ourselves, we only live once, so I don't see why we can't enjoy what we want as long as we don't gorge ourselves. I also have more calorie requirements because I'm breastfeeding. I NEVER count calories. I just eat healthy and stop when I'm satisfied, not full or stuffed.

I didn't re-start the running plan until just recently. I actually gained some weight when I started, muscle, before I started losing.

Re: OT WeightLoss Thread

the homemade salad dressing sounds good. i love salads too & i was trying to find a dressing that was good but wasnt just as fat as a big mac. i like italian, so i'll try to make my own.

the muscle before fat makes sense. i have a gut & wanted to start working on my core but i was afraid that if i built muscle under the fat, it will be harder to get rid of the gut. a friend has a gut that hard & he says he started doing ab workouts, his stomach got hard & now he cant get rid of it.

Re: OT WeightLoss Thread

OK I'm done, frustrated, fed up, someone needs to tie me down so I won't eat anymore birthday cake.

THE STARVATION HAS BEGUN!!! Ate today: 1 peach, bunch of grapes, a yam with nothing on it. I will not give up coffee. Had it with cream and sugar.

Reducing caloric intake by more than 300 to 500 per day will signal your bodies natural defense against starvation and it will consume you lean muscle mass and save the body fat. Ergo, most reduced calorie diets fail.

The fruits and veggies are fabulous Kath, just add 25 grams of good lean protein to hedge against the glycemic effect of the friuts/starch you consumed.

Maybe try some organic honey in lieu of the sugar to sweeten your coffee.

Any increase in muscle mass will reult in additional calorie burning/fat metabolozing capacity. Your friend has subcutaneous fat covering up his core muscles. The fat is more than likely tied to his diet. The two are mutually exclusive, so train your core JoJo.

Re: OT WeightLoss Thread

Ditto craigo! You can't starve yourself to healthy... your body will literally consume the GOOD stuff inside! Cut back slightly and watch WHAT you eat... that's the key to long term health.. and be careful about how QUICK you lose ANY weight.. there are some studies right now going about the effects of rapid weight loss on your organs.. one theory (which is substantiated many times over) is that it has a negative effect on your gall bladder...

jus be careful

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: OT WeightLoss Thread

Healthy weight loss is 1 to 3 lbs of fat per week depending on your genetic/biochemical make up. I lost 2.83 lbs of fat per week and have successfully kept it "off" for ten years.

Remember muscle is 5 times as dense as fat, and I weigh more now than when I started "losing" weight. 17 lbs of fat lost and 25 lbs of muscle gained nets to 8 additional lbs, but my waist decreased by 2 1/2" from where I sarted at 182 lbs.

Hope that makes sense!
