Some say his first name was in fact Gilligan.

In unaired pilot (with some different cast members) a radio report of the ships disappearance named him as Willy Gilligan.

I Grew up with that show and still loce it!

Willy was just a conceptual name. Creator Sherwood Schwartz ultimately declared Gilligan as the characters first name.
