Re: OT: How's the weather?

Holy cow Craig! I had my left shoulder reconstructed but that's it. There are meditation and relaxation techniques I still use to keep me centered even though I don't do yoga anymore. It's helped keep me sane.

Re: OT: How's the weather?

Partially paraylzed right arm, brachial plexis injury, 7 reconstructive surgeries. Severed fermal artery and savinus vein in my right leg 10 recocunstructive injuries. Torn left rotator cuff, 2 reconstructive surgeries. Malignant melanoma removed from left shoulder. Torn ACL, medial/lateral meniscus, reconstructive surgery.

My faith in God and being thankful for what I can do, not what I can't do keeps me centered.

Re: OT: How's the weather?

Well after being copped up indoors for the past few days it was a nice day out today...still very windy...I suppose that's spring for ya. Not sure of the temp today but right now its about 40. Nikki if you wouldn't mind I could use some of those centering techniques...long story short I'm a disabled vet and some days are just worse than others...I would love to have those techniques to fall back on to instead of pills...and coffee *wink*

It's pretty difficult to describe or lead you through meditation by writing it out...there's a really good dvd that got me started in yoga called A.M. P.M. Yoga. It's got some really good, short sun salutations with some brief meditation techniques in it.

Re: OT: How's the weather?

I did some quick looking and found a free video for you. There are many different kinds of yoga. You need to practice hatha yoga which involves the purification of the body as a gateway for mental purification through extended meditation. I know it sounds like a bunch of hippie jibberish. The important thing to remember is to always be aware of your body and keep your mind clear. You can't allow any thoughts to enter your mind other than what you're doing. You must concentrate on your breathing, taking the deepest breaths you can. After some practice, you will be able to meditate without forcing thoughts of everyday things out of your head, you will become more aware of your body and will improve your mental clarity.

Try This

Imagry is important to get the desired results. When you sit, ground your sit bones and imagine that there is a string attached to the top of your head, pulling you up to the sky. Everything you do must be balanced and equal. What you do on one side, must be done on the other. When you breathe, imagine that your lungs are an umbrella. When you inhale, imagine that you are slowly opening that umbrella and when you exhale, you are slowly closing that umbrella. Concentrate on your breathing and your body will follow. It's useful to play relaxing music when you begin. I find that it's easier to block out things when it's not silent.

pm me if you want more tips.
