Re: can i survive on smoothies?

Can you? Yes
Should you? No
You need to have some variety and a diet like that will not work for the long term. The diets that work are the ones that change your eating habits to healthier habits that you keep long term. Otherwise the weight just comes back when you go off of the diet.

I think you would develop lateral line disease and hole in the head if you didn't mix at least a little nori in with that...

You need to eat food dude. Unprocessed food is best. Gotta have protein. And, exercise.

Re: can i survive on smoothies?

Mike crash diets with the cabbage soup diet. It's nasty by day 4 but he gets through it then goes on Atkins. He does seem to keep it off that way, but HOLY COW stay upwind.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: can i survive on smoothies?

I absolutely MUST have some form of sugar at least once a week. When I'm bad it's once a day.

ANYway, whaddya doin', Bob? Just losing for general reasons or you got an event comin' up? The soup diet will take 10 lbs off, pretty much guaranteed if you are faithful. Hard as h@%% though.

How about running? Can you run? If you take up running and get into it as fast as you can (without hurting yourself, get GOOD SHOES) fat will melt off. Every guy I have ever known has the ability to shave off pound through either of those two methods. For us women, dieting just sucks.

Oh, and PM Craig. He does the exercise thing for a living.

Re: can i survive on smoothies?

i recommend doing this. weigh yourself for a few weeks eating what your always eat. See if you are maintaining your weight. If so then good. From there see what your eating and see if you can cut out stuff. For example if your eating chicken with the skin on it, then go skinless, if your eating alot of cookies, then when you go for a cookie try something healtheir like a granola bar. With slow changes like that you will be able to slowly bring your weight down, and you will also be more likley to stick with it in the long run. Im trying to do this... its really hard though. Driving by the burger shop and having the smell of fresh grilled burgers coming thru my heater vents of the car or the thought of pizza and wings on a friday night with a movie. But slowly im managing it so hopefully a few years from now i will have conqured the whole dieting thing.

Re: can i survive on smoothies?

That is along the same line I been doing.
When the whole atkins diet when crazy nuts I started reading closer to the ingredients on things and noticed the connection between carbs and sugar.
In whatever it was I was looking at they were exactly the same # of grams. Go figure.
So I started with my drivethrough combo meals switching from my default soda to iced tea. Then after a long while cut the fries out. I would eat a couple but toss the rest. Then when Wendy's did the whole choose your side thing started getting chili then salads. Has done alot for me. I still get icecream or cookies from time to time. I'm not dead after all.
It took me 39 years to get to this point so I'm not expecting an overnight miracle.

Re: can i survive on smoothies?

You can survive off that for a while, are you having cholesterol/blood pressure problems or trying to lose weight? If you are trying to lose then you must learn to modify your eating habits i lost 25 lbs by cutting out soda and replacing my regular lunch with raw veggies and fruits. Plateaued and lost another fifteen by eating a garden salad and a glass of water before dinner and cutting down the portions of my dinner plate. Actually I just used a smaller plate in size. This all included a brisk 1hour walk every day before dinner.
