OT: Polaroid

Well in a tragic turn of events Polaroid is going to stop making instant film and I assume instant film cameras since everyone uses digital now.

Guess it's better for the environment but kinda sad from a nostalgic point of view.

I remember getting one of those. It was fun but expensive. I can understand why they are stopping production.. digital is so much better in so many ways.

Re: OT: Polaroid

tell me about it, I'm in the x-ray business and everything is going digital. The x-ray films used are drastically being converted to computed radiography, and digital...

Things are changing fast! Kodak sold there medical division, the whole indusrty is effected...

I'll need a new job soon. Anyone hiring?

It's amazing what they do with films now. At night, some of the hospitals here upload CTs and send them to Australia to be read and have them back w/ results in under 30 minutes.

Yup, with the folded match book slid underneath to keep them playing right. Sitting on them in the car to warm them up in the winter months so they wouldn't drag in the player.

Re: OT: Polaroid

Yeah that would the PACS system, they can send the images anywhere in the world in Hi res (DICOM) for other doctors to view on very expensive hi-res monitors... Internet is used in so many ways these days...

I would love to pen my own aquatic / reptile pet store... Just need a million or two to do what I want

Re: OT: Polaroid

I not only remember 8-tracks and cassetes but I remember the converter than allowed you to play cassetes in the 8-track player. I also had the original pong and a remote control with a cord.
Now I feel really old.

Re: OT: Polaroid

I had an atari and I still have my father's TRS 80 computer complete with the tape recorder used for the cassette tape "floppy disks." He predicted the whole centralization of entertainment, communication and LIFE in general on computers. He made his computer sing "Daisy"... weeks after 2001 came out.

Re: OT: Polaroid

Rabbit ears.
Cold stormy nights on the roof adjusting the antennae so you could at least watch 1 or 2 of the 8 channels you got.
