Is scheduled for 2:45pm today.
Weather may be a problem but as of now it is a go. If you want to watch live video go to space.com

Cross your fingers. It looks good there but is very cloudy here. I may watch on the net instead of going outside. The clouds are going to block most of it here.

What is awesome is to feel it live.
Depending on which way it launches it rattles the windows in my house and drives the dogs crazy. The fish don't seem to care.
I've seen about 30 launches from 3 miles away. That is as close as anyone but the astronauts can be during a launch. No matter how many launches I watch it is still incredible. Particularly night launches. It looks like the sun is rising in the middle of the night.
They are polling the departments now to see if they can come out of the hold.

Last I heard (I've been watching the launch via the link), it was traveling at 17,500 MPH

Talk about g-force!! whew!

The launch was picture perfect.
I should get some pictures shortly and I will link to them when I get the email. I ususally get pics from some interresting cameras.

You have 0 G-Force at that speed or any speed. The G-Force is during the launch.

I don't know this for certain but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

As long as that shuttle is accelerating, there is a G-Force! From the live feed reports, there was increasing acceleration. In fact they talked about decreasing acceleration at one point for the comfort of the astronauts.

You are absolutely correct. The g force comes from the acceleration.

What is the difference between the Space Shuttle and the Orbiter?

The Shuttle is composed of the 2 solid rocket boosters and the external tank. The Orbiter rides on the shuttle into space before the shuttle disengages. The orbiter carries the payload and astronauts, orbits the earth and glides back to earth because it doesn't have engines to accelerate it to landing.
