OT: a day and a half in Rome

We have amended the Italy portion of our trip to include a day and a half in Rome. I know it's not much time, but I'm excited as I haven't been there before!

We're staying in a converted monastery just inside the gates to Vatican City. We're planning on seeing the Vatican Museums, including the Sistene Chapel and St Peter's Cathedral. I don't know that we'll have time for much more than that, though. We may be able to hit the old city center the first day we're there... we arrive by train around 11am, so we'll probably head there straight away.

Our business partner from up in the Dolomites is flying down our last day there to take us to dinner. Very nice of him, and he has excellent taste in restaurants.

Anybody been there before? Can you recommend good restaurants or hidden treasure sorts of places that must be seen when in Rome, other than the usual things at the top of the list?

LOL, I thought where you said "amended" it read "ended" see what happens on 4 hours of sleep. OK I guess you I will let you slide just this one time,LOL.
