Re: OT: The big swap

The "boozer" asked me to come over and field the "crystal vs. starphire" question and since freaks like the boozeman keep me working on the weekends, I will do just that
The term, "starphire" or, "crystal" is simply referring to low iron glass. Some in europe call our glass, "extra clear" and our old standard was "clear" and some started calling it, "crystal clear" and then was shortened to, "crystal" and that is how many refer to it now.
Now a little about low iron glass. Most in the US will use "starphire" made by PPG because PPG is an american company. There are a few other reputable companies in the US that make low iron glass but this is the largest company doing this, so in the US most recognize this as being "the" low iron glass. Our tanks are hand made in Italy and PPG has a very small presence in europe so we use another vendor of low iron glass. Now here is the key difference and it is something that boozeman mentioned earlier in this thread. The key is what quality control and what standards the tank builder has when they receive the glass because ALL low iron glass from reputable companies is the same. For us we routinely reject panes of glass for imperfections. For example, I was delayed on one shipment earlier this year because there were a few 1mm bubbles on 2 panes of glass so the ENTIRE truckload of glass was rejected. After that you have to look at experience in making these types of tanks, the design, the polishing, the service, etc. I hope that helps and let me know if you need any other questions.

This tank is going to rock. With as much planning and research that has gone into it tells me it will be spectacular.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: OT: The big swap

Holy Toledo Booze, how did I miss this thread!? All this time and this is the first time I have seen it. Why is this under OT? Well anyway, that is one sweet set-up. I like the etched Elos swoosh, but a Superman emblem would have been better! I never thought to look in OT for your chronicle!
