Elos makes thier own silicone...made especially to be able to hold these panes together without a brace. After the two halves are put together a tiny sliver of glass is inserted over the inside seam...this is done to prevent any boring invertebrates from messing with the seam (I know...crazy!!)

forgot to mention... Elos uses the crystal glass to make the ENTIRE tank. All sides, bottom and even the overfow is made with this crystal

The ''funky looking bottom'' ....
In order to GUARANTEE that the braceless/trimless tank will be able to withstand all the water pressure, the bottom is specially constructed and assembled using 16 separate panes of glass which are staggered and sanwiched together with penty of that special black silicone...giving it that look that Al was asking about as if there are lil pads under the tank. This allows the side stresses to be efficiently transfered and diffused by the double thick bottom.

Very impressive tank BTW, can't wait to see that one up and running. Well the weekend is near, so 2 days should be plenty of time. Just don't be like Wit and use a measuring cup to fill your tank or you might need more than two days,lol.

The overflow...
Elos refers to it as a 'dry' overflow, this is because the chamber itself remains open and the overflow is piped separately via a specially made piece that is machined from a solid block of PVC. This chamber also houses the return which ends in a double angled nozzle that has a smaller nozzle set at its top that forces a smaller stream of water to both gently break the waters surface to aid in breaking up any protenaceous film and created small ripples which will give cool glitter lines as the light bounces off them

By having this 'dry' chamber it makes it easy conceal any wires that run to the lighting or to run powerhead wires
