Nikki, just wait...it seems like once they turn into teenagers, the appetite explodes. (girls maybe not so much as boys, but...you never know.) Our son could almost eat a burger joint out of food by 15...

Wow...stitches. I miss a lot. Hang in there Kath!
I will be in the clinic over an eye infection, but I can't even call for an appointment until Monday. I have some swelling around the area, plenty of irritation. Not as exciting as stitches...

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

I'm having a really bad weekend - day was going OK yesterday - very hot and frustrating trying to keep the tanks cool without ac in the house. Dogs were hot I was hot so I got in the pool (felt great) dunked the dogs in the pool - they did not appreciate it but were happy to be cool. Sat down to check what was happening here and noticed both dogs outside barking at something. Thought it was a wounded hawk from the color and size of it so I went outside to get them away from it - turns out it was a rattlesnake. Dogs had never seen one before and wouldn't leave it alone. I'm yelling at them to get in the house and trying to find something to block the sanke with. Found a large rake, but by then it had started striking at the dogs. Got the bigger dog, Krom, on the chin, he went in the house and the little one followed him. Krom had some blood drippiong from his chin and I'm tring to call their vet, closed - called another vet - they ran out of antivenin the day before and have me call another vet - meanwhile trying to get some clothes on and find my keys.... Get him to the vet and they dont have antivenin either. No one has the stuff - too expensive to keep around... I'm bawling at the vets, they are saying the antivenin isn't that important... I get home several hours later to find the sweetlips in the QT has died - I think the tank got too hot while I was gone, but not sure... Crappy Saturday... I finally quit crying about 1 am but couldn't sleep. Mark went to the river for the weekend for a boys trip and I didn't want them driving home last night after drinking on the boat all day so he wont be home till noonish... Just had to share my misery...

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

That is absolutey terrrible steph..and coming from me who has a bad day in one way shape or form is saying allot. I really hope the dog is OK...sorry about your loss in the tank too. I think Monday you should try to get your AC all strighted out. You need it, the dogs would prob. appreciate and the tank def needs it. 4 Very important people in that house that need that air. Just call a plumbing and heating company and they should be able to fix it.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

Sorry to hear about the dog. Hopefully that'll turn out OK. Not surprised about the sweetlips. Pretty common outcome with them.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

I checked in with the vet - wanted to go see him, but they said he is calm and doing well but gets excited when anyone comes over to his "bed", they want him calm and if I went he would get really excited so I'm not going. (that's really difficult, but better for his health...) Vet says he is still stable, alert as he can be with a bunch of morphine in him, had no trouble peeing this morning so no kidney issues, he has swelling at his jaw where he got bit, down his neck and chest. Vet said some bruising which is all normal. The swelling is not affecting his breathing so that is great. We are now just waiting to see if he will have blood coagulation problems. If his coagulation levels remain normal over the next 24 hours he will have no further problems, just swelling which can last for awhile. From all my research rattlesnake bites are not usually fatal in animals so that makes me feel better.

Thanks everybody for your concern - it means so much!!!

Good news about your dog Steph, hoping for the best. I have tons of rattlesnake experience, you and your dogs are lucky.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

It's good to hear that he's doing well. I can imagine how difficult it is to stay away from him right now but I'm sure he'll make a full recovery and you'll have him back home soon.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

Thanks guys - he's home, picked him up a little while ago. He's completely stoned... but looks OK. His jaw is swollen but he's moving around. Seems a little restless but glad to be home. Thanks for all the good wishes - it worked!
