On a somewhat good note...I've been working on my 4 yr old's reading skills. I picked up the kindergarten sight words from my brother, since he has a little one. The words he has trouble with I have him write, helps with his memory. I was a librarian in my former life, so we have plenty of books here. My kid is signed up for the summer reading program on Post again this year.
I could sure use a beer. lol
Oh, good!

Reading is good! Don't forget phonics... I swear it's the best way to teach reading. Boring as hell for us parents though.
Summer reading programs were very popular in our house. At our library the summer program included a story hour weekly so Momma could browse through the Big Girl books while the kids were away.

Reading before bed was one of my favorite times. They'd pick a 'grown-up' book from 2 or 3 that I'd offer and I'd read them a chapter every night. That's how I got 'em hooked on sci fi... hee hee.. they love it! Just like mom.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

I'm SO glad Erin's in her preK program. The teacher is great, she's learning stuff I might not think of. I have been hearing all week about how a spider is an "ahh RACK nid" and "this is my head, thorax and AB doh min" and the teacher sent home a recommended reading list for summer. If Erin reads all the books (about 10) and completes the daily "task" list (june 18: siif if there are any ants in your backyard; july 13: ask your parents what kind of car they drive) -- all this is signed by a parent, they get a "surprise" when they go back to school in Sept. And the teacher will "travel" with them, and maybe even to to kindergarten with them too.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

My kid will do a semester of Pre K next spring when my husband is gone. Then we move out of here mid kindergarten.

We got lucky! Got him an early report date for November. Means I will not be uprooting the family to live in a motel room for Christmas!

Way back when my kids were in pre-school it was considered "play school". They went for 2hrs 3x/week. It was just enough for them and me.

That's good about your husband's report date. A motel at Christmas sounds kinda chaotic.

I think you should openly read the whole thing! I always read Men's Health. I figure it's good to know your enemy!

I've noticed that the articles are generally very short and to the point, and there a lots of them. Illustrates the way men think about stuff.

You mens should do that, too! Then you'd have a Clearer Understanding of us womens.
