Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

I am not young...younger maybe...but I feel worn out. I have arthritis in my hip. I've had it since I was 26. I have to keep below a certain weight, which was tough when I was pregnant, or I have issues.

Not really the same, but I thought I would share.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

I've had back problems for about 20 years. Operating heavy equipment will do that to ya...the back really went bad after I blew out the knee, and being a stubborn mule-headed SOB, kept working, even though the doctor tried to convince me to sit at home on disability. The knee would fold up under me and I took 3 pretty good falls. The docs say thats what FUBAR'd the disks and SI joint. I had the knee repaired, (new ACL and meniscotomy) but the damage has already been done. My knee doc keeps telling me that I'll need a knee replacement, but I just don't hurt bad enough...yet. (gee, thanks doc)

Yeah, when I was pregnant the last time. I had some discomfort. Fort Bliss is like a chop shop. They got all excited thinking that they had a candidate to cut on. Uh no...I'll wait until it realy becomes an issue and I can go to a dr of my choice. It isn't like I live with it daily.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

ooo. Sorry guys, you sound like a hurtin' bunch. I'm not falllin apart yet, just comparing myself to what I could do at 20. DAMN I looked good. Just showed the munchkin the wedding album. She likes that stuff, me telling her stories about me and her daddy and when we were kids and all.

Looks like Mike's going to be deployed a bunch with this new assignment. They did water ... I don't know the word... protection? for Cheney today, he gave the commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut. He's heading to two more states before Friday (Mike, not Cheney) We do more before breakfast than most people do all day...

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

Kathy, your hubby's a Coastie?

My hat's off to him. They've always been the 9-1-1 on the water. We have another member who's a Coastie in the S.F Bay area unless he's been transferred. Reefguard is his nick.
(I worked maritime construction for years as well as fished off-shore a lot)

Yup. 12 years now. He's doing his 20 and maybe more depending on how retirement looks AFA kid in HS and $ at the time. He just got reassigned and we're stayin here in joisey while he jets around with the new job. Don't know how much I can post bec. of OPSEC, but he's going to be a busy little deck swabber for the next 3 years.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

I dated a couple of coasties in my rebellious days...they were roommates actually. but it proved my theory that it's much better to date older (more experienced ) men.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

Keeep your kids away from thr hellevision! Psychologists tell us an hour or two of sex, drugs, and vilolence has little/no effect on kids. Well the psychologists could save companies billions of dollars by convincing them that a 30 second or 1 minute commercial is just throwing money down the drain. Yeah right, do the psychologists think we're stoopid?

Hats off to anyone who serves to make our country safer.

And ladies, ya'll look fabulous!

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

Illinois doesn't have too many Coast Guard guys. Had a couple of Jarheads, that is about it.

Wait, I could have grown up on an extra hour of sex, drugs and violence a night as a kid?????? Man, I missed out.

Kathy, by all means, please tell your hubby THANKS for what he does...from an old maritime hand. He and his brothers & sisters have always made my work (and play) safer.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

Right back atcha Boomer, I have a nice healthy respect for the "real" military (insert knee high navy joke here), AND their spouses, who get in teh way of gunfire a little more often that Mike's bunch. I, up to this point, have KNOWN Mike would not get put in an active wartime situation, boarding drug running boats aside.

Now he's not going to be strapping on weapons but he's going to be in charge of a few groups of SWAT types, making decisions about sending guys into danger. It's going to be pretty serious for him.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

Living where I live, I would not want my husband boarding drug carrying boats...drug carrying anything is more than enough to get ya shot at in my neck of the world.
