| Golden Moray | Re: OT: Women of RS Thread She usually just hangs out and looks around. She's entertained by any kind of movement, especially when it's mine. She loves to "dance" so I've usually got some music playing too.

| Manta Ray | Re: OT: Women of RS Thread Barb, I'll tell you what, we used to take away toys until he knocked it off and then he would have to earn every single toy back. Problem: Has a lot of toys, so he would go and refind the stuff he hasn't played with for awhile. Once we boxed up all of his toys while he was sleeping. He had to earn every single toy back. Then there was Christmas, hit so much I took presents out from under the tree, opened it in fron t of him, said he wasn't going to get them. Still hasn't. That ticked him off. Still got the hitting going on. Now instead, of grounding him one day for every year of his life, I cut the punishment down to one 24 hr period, and he cannot touch a toy. He may read a book, practice writing, cutting or coloring. He can help me around the house, but he cannot play. After planting tulips today, I had him helping me pull weeds out of the front yard. I am exhausted. Got a lot done though! |

No, I don't think so. You gotta do whatever works, that's for sure. Once they could write we had them sit down and write about what they did wrong. The writing, which was age appropriate, had to include: what they did, why they did it, why they wouldn't do it again, and at least one solution that was different and more productive than the solution they had chosen which had gotten them into trouble. I do know we never "grounded" them as they got older. That was more of a punishment for me than it was for them. These writings started as lists when they were small and progressed to essays. They hated doing it, but one son is a journalist, so it didn't harm him too much. They all three always had A's in english classes, too.

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: OT: Women of RS Thread Oh god I remember those days... wasn't too long ago. I lived in a daze of never getting enough sleep. Plus the fact that my body was totally shot from the preclampsia and birth induction. I spent about 5 days in teh hospital, and I felt so bad about being relieved that Erin wasn't coming home with me when I was released (they wanted to watch her for a while) but I'm so glad I got to rest before!!! Take your breaks when you can get 'em!!

| Golden Moray | Re: OT: Women of RS Thread Olivia came home with us on a Tuesday and Tommy got sent ou of town the next Monday. He's only worked in town for a few weeks since she's been born so it's mostly just been the two of us.

My kid was supposed to be sent to NICU immediately after being born. Luckily he got to stay with me for those couple of days after he was born. I had to leave mine at the hospital for 2 weeks, so don't feel too guilty over a couple of days. | |

| Golden Moray | Re: OT: Women of RS Thread i know exactly what you mean! I was enduced because of PIH/Preeclampsia and they told me not to eat anything heavy or anything past midnight....21 hours after being induced, Olivia was born. Talk about being hungry. I had to send Tommy out to get breakfast from Village Inn. But Olivia ended up perfect and we didn't have any NICU scares or have to leave her there. That would have broken my heart.

| Manta Ray | Re: OT: Women of RS Thread That is good. NICU is a terrible nightmare no mom should have to discover. My kid ended up with a clean bill of health. The specialists thought he might have had cancer called neuroblastoma. After the surgery the biopsy concluded it was tissue seperated from the lungs durng the development of the organ. It took 6 days for all of the specialists to get together a surgery date. Then my son had an infection afterwards...anyway, insurance paid almost a milion bucks when all was said and done. |

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: OT: Women of RS Thread Wow. NICU wasn't that bad for us. We were in Bethesda military hospital. Had alot of kids in there, mostly just preemies like Erin, few with really serious problems. I do remember one born in Germany WAY WAY too early that had to be flown to the US and still had a shunt (right term?) in her head. Wasn't doing too badly but there was past infections adn all. Scary.

| Manta Ray | Re: OT: Women of RS Thread Bethesda is one sweet looking military hospital. Way better than Walter Reed! We have a big hospital system here at Bliss, but our specialists come in from San Antonio on rotations. So I was happy when I was referred out to the civilians. Bliss does not have a NICU. |
