Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

LOL...20!? It's supposed to be in the 70's-80's this week. The people we bought the house from liked a lot of crap in the landscaping. I've already pulled half of it out and it still looks cluttered. We've got lava rocks in the space with the pond which we put in after we moved in to take the place of 6 azalea bushes. I think the spiders are male black widows which makes me nervous. We have a trellace (former owner's) covered in jasmine over a half-gate going into our back yard and when Tommy was cutting the grass yesterday he said there were 3 female black widows who has made their webs in the trellace. I've never seen anything more than a garden spider in the house though, so I'm hoping that spraying outside will take care of them.

You can come down here where the sun is shining. I think it is low 80s today.
I have plenty of space and lots of tank work you can do. If you are stuck on the gardening thing then we can really get to work.
I'm with Barb on that one. Every once in a while I get a gardening urge. I go to the store buy a bunch of plants and that is it. Sometimes they get planted but other times they never make it out of their original pot. I always get distracted either working on or staring at the tanks.
It's a little hard to ignore the oldest. She calls constantly wanting daddy to visit or wanting some cash.
They were so little. How did they grow up?
That's one of the things where I had to tell my mother she was right. The older you get, the faster time flies. When I was a kid I never belived her.

Forgot to say that I am right with you on spiders. They are the one thing that can really scares me. I get hysterical if I see one of the giant wolf spiders that we have down here. Fortunately I have only seen one in the house and that was in the attic more than 10 years ok. Even though they are harrmless they just creep me out.

On a less creepy note, here's a pic of Olivia this morning in all her bed-head glory. I couldn't help but take a picture.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

Hang in there Nikki, my husband is in and out for months at a time. I know what it is like to not have a break.

How am I today?
So far I got the dishes started, working on getting a load of laundry out of the dryer. 4 yr old is grounded for hitting and pushing, not allowed to play with toys for 24 hours. So he is helping me out around the house. Baby is cranky. Getting ready to take the 4 yr old outside to help me plant some flowers and pull weeds while it is cool and breezeless. I am trying to keep away from the tanks today...trying. I had to call CPR Aquatics because a new fuge light shorted out. Got some fish food thawing in the fridge...but I swear I am done with that for the day!

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

Lynn, my gardening urge is to rip every last plant that those hillbillies planted and burn them all. The rest of our yard has pine mulch in the beds to the weeds grow like crazy. I'm just going to spray some industrial weed killer we've got and hope they don't kill all the bushes and then put lava rock over it. It'll look a LOT better and the weeds don't grow through it as well.

She is adorable!!!!!
I love the messy look she is doing. It's right in style.
Look at those big eyes. She is staring right at you and the camera.

She had just finished eating and I was going to take the picture with milk all over her face. She fell asleep and the milk kept coming. But she wiped her face off before I could grab the camera.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

I've got lava rock in some areas. True it cuts down on the weeds, but the ones that get through are really tough to pull out. I try not to use chemicals so I can't just spray them away.
My last house the guy let everything get insanely overgrown. There were trees 15 years old still in pots with giant roots growing through and into the dirt.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

BLACK WIDOWS! That would do me in! When I lived in Fl there was a wolf spider in the bathroom with me once that was jumping from wall to wall and honestly I thought I was stuck in a nightmare!

Landscaping last fall is what did my back in this last time, and I think it's for good so I'm SO DONE with it. I was digging a freakin' hole with a pick because our lovely clay soil was so hard and the next day I couldn't walk. So much for that! I've planted mostly trees and perennials. If I plant any annuals it will be in some pots by the front door. If anything in the ground doesn't make it; TOUGH BEANS.

Nikki, if I were you I'd kill it all and put gravel in... do black widows live in gravel?! Maybe get a flame thrower?

Lynn, 20yr old girls are SOMETHING ELSE. But wait, when they're 22 they become wonderful. At least mine has. Nikki, I hope you're not 20! LOL If so, then you're an exception to that!

Becky, taking those toys away from your 4yo is punishing YOU! LOL I don't know what to tell you, though! Good luck with that. I think it sounds like you NEED some tank time!

And, yes, TWENTY freakin' degrees, all you warm weather wimps!

Olivia is just gorgeous, but you know that!

I though maybe she'd just finished eating; she has that milk drunk look!

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

I'll have to use chemicals in the corner. Because I was on bedrest I couldn't get out there and weed so there are small trees and bushes growing around the landscaped plants. The weeds that grew in around our sable palm and pond were pretty easy to pull out with the exception of a few. But they had really shallow root balls so I just stuck a digger thing in there and pryed them out. Tommy's mom got us this cute bouncy seat thingy with a net over the front of it so she's shaded and you can zip her in so the bugs can't get to her. Olivia will be out there with me so she can get outside for a little while, I'll just have to wait until late in the day so it won't be too warm.

That is so sweet that she can go out there with you. Probably a distraction but I would have fun discovering whatever fascinated her.
