Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

hey Nikki did they put you on magnesium sulfate when/after she was born because of the preeclampsia? I lost a solid 3 or 4 days there, can't remember a thing. No, wait, I can remember not being able to move.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

nope...my bp was constantly in the 160's/130's range but only when upright. If I layed down for 5 minutes on my left side, it was normal. I was in the hospital for 3 days though.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

OK I'm gonna use this thread to rant a little. WHAT IS IT AT AGE FOUR???? This week has been a nightmare. NO NO NO NO NO is all I hear, breaking her toys, purposely defying me, backtalking, tantrums, continuing to do what i told her to stop and not just a second while she redirects, PURPOSELY.

I did a lot of research online and followed The Nanny's plan of putting "the rules" on a board on the wall and if she breaks a rule she goes in time outon the stairs. Well guess how often she's in time out? ALOT!!! the only positive I see is that she does stay on the step. After I have to drag her kicking adn screming there, she does stay.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hang tough. It is a normal "phase" in childhood. She will soon be back to her normal sweet self.

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

Four is one of the tougher ages. I remember that giving choices seemed to help a lot. If you think hard, you can make just about EVERYthing into a choice. I think they want to have some personal power and control.

Try to steer things to a positive light so there isn't as much chance for a fight.

And, natural consequences are good! Breaking a toy is a perfect example; if she breaks a toy she can't play with it anymore. You can sympathize; "oh, honey, what a shame! Your toy is broken and you can't play with it anymore! What happened?" It tends to make them think about why the toy broke (in 4 yr old terms of course), rather than think about being punished for breaking the toy.

I'm sorry to say, you're going to have to grit your teeth and find the strength to outwit her! You can do it! You do reefing, and know PATIENCE.

I'll leave, but it is an idea. Why don't you all discuss it among yourselves...

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

Oy. She was actually really good this morning. I never know lately what kind of mood she'll wake up in. She's in a Pre-K 4 program and it's doing her good as far as socialization and structure. We're pretty lax on stuff like organized mealtimes. It's also a place where she can do a variety of stuff I might not think of like pasting scaled peices of paper on fish outlines (what texture goes with the fish) and stuff like that. And it gives me a break during the day!!!

She's really a smart kid. I looked up a bunch of suggestions like what you mentioned, Barb, the "natural" consequences, which are kinda common sense but you need pointed out you know? And I read them to Mike and Erin last night. So later in bed she quizzes me about it. The example was a 4 year old who refused to hold mommy's hand to cross the road to go to the park so they didn't go to the park. You could see the wheels turning. Cracked me up.

So she's at school and Mike's at work -- he has a varied schedule, usually home more often that not driving me nuts -- so WHAT am I gonna DO with myself? (other than laundry, clean bathroom, organize bedroom, wrap a b-day present, change the birds...)

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

I hear ya, Kathy, I hear ya! It's a blessing that she's smart but also makes for more of a challenge, that's for sure. Thank goodness for that pre-k program!

She doesn't like to hold your hand? No problem! I had one like that as well! Have her hold YOU... somewhere other than your hand.. make it her choice. Gives her the power, and she's safe. You can give a little reward when she is consistent in holding on. It's small, but it puts her in control of her own safety, which is something you want to teach anyway. Shows her she is very capable of taking care of herself, and she is!

Today, maybe you could play on RS! Hey, maybe you could get banned!!

Re: OT: Women of RS Thread

I can't wait for Olivia to go to Pre-K. Honestly though, I hope we move before then because in our area, she'd probably be smarter than the teachers.
