OT: What would you do here?

so at the beginning of the summer my boss sent out an e-mail to everybody that worked in our offices.

the e-mail was to inform us that those who were employed from may to Oct 5, would receive a $500 bonus for not quitting or being fired.

long story short, there only 2 of us left, and i dont think that my bosses are gonna make good on the offer.

im kinda bummed. i was gonna fix my car and get an aqua c remora...

Sorry Bob... I got fired in Feb pretty much because I "didn't fit in" at the law firm. I was a $*^ receptionist (again, this is what a BA in liberal arts is good for) and the girl who fired me said everyone liked me but I would do better in a "more creative environment." cool, huh?

I hope you still have that email. That is all I can say, I am a paralegal and not allowed to give you any legal advice ,but can advise you to seek an attorney with printed email in hand and see what he/she can do with it.

As an employer I think if you tell an employee something you should follow through. In your case if he doesnt then go to the Labor board with theoriganal e-mail not a forwarded one & file a complaint.

Reson for this is I will make a long story shory. We promoted a girl verbally & gave her a raise. after 4 days she was not proforming as expected not even as she was prior to the raise. We called her in & demoted her & withdrew the raise as of that date. She worked for us for about a week longer then quit. she went to the labor board. The total amount she would have been paid in the time we demoted her until she quit was $12.00. We got a notice of hearing from the labor board The labor board was trying to give her $12,000.00 for her troubles. SO the labor board will work in you favour. In our case it costs US $4,000.00 in attorneys fees & had to give her $5,000.00 in compensation. I thought it really sucked again back to one of the reasons I have IRD.

I'd personally at least ask/remind your boss about it, that's really unfair.

Man it sucks, BUT (I'm on your side here but I play devil's advocate to get at all sides) it's a bonus, and as I understand it is subject to the boss' discretion if you even get one at all.

I would realy check in to it I know in CA if you verbally tell someone something as an employer like a raise or a bonus or even time off it is binding

I had the issue of getting paid my left over vacation after I quit(2 week notice was up) they gave me a BS line that I needed to have an average of 35 hrs to get them, and I had an average of 34.7, i was soooooo P.O.ed....
