Re: OT: Getting a little worried...

Hang in there... it will all work out.. when I was younger we had a forest fire approach our home... was so tramatic watching it get closer and actually accelerate over the mountain.... lucky the weather changed and within 1/4 of our home the fire was stopped. It's GREAT that you have everything prepared. Just give those kids LOTS of hugs and keep us posted. BE SAFE and God-Speed.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Be careful and be safe.

I know of someone who baggied their fish and put them in a bucket and they were fine.

Re: OT: Getting a little worried...

Best wishes.
Living in FL I am only too familiar with forest fires. We have bad ones here an they have gotten within 1/4 mile of the house. The kids and the furred and feathered pets were evacuated early leaving me with whatever I could save out of the tanks. I made a portable "tank" for the seahorses but never did figure out how to get the rest out. Fortunately the fire turned and all was well in our case.
Hope it turns away from you as well.

So far, so good. All the power is out. We'll see how long the battery back up lasts. Just have the pumps running. I shut down the chiller.

Re: OT: Getting a little worried...

The power was out for a couple hours but is back on. The battery back up was great. It just ran the pumps. We're still in the clear but it's really windy out and you never know. It says 0% contained and has burned 10,000 acres. My husbands grandma was evacuated and she's at his parents house. The freeways are empty and lots of people are staying home. My mom couldn't go to work and the road that she works on is on fire. They have the freeway closed over there too. Me and the kid are sick with a cold so the smoke isn't helping. There are so many homes that have been lost...it's very sad.

It's in Escondido. That's where his grandma was evacuated from.
