This also goes into the history of the development of religion and cultures in both China and Japan. Early Japanese civilization "borrowed" a lot in ways of religion and arts from China early on. China was viewed as the center of the universe by the Chinese. Later on as Japanese culture and religion started to develop into it's own the Japanese culture saw itself as the center of the universe. This leads into the above. I had a three toed dragon done on my arm in a more american style to represent my Japanese american background. I would love to have more traditional style Japanese tattoo work done, but I like the idea of mixing the Japanese and American styles to represent my own heritage and my own uniqueness, even if other might not appreciate it as much. BTW, there is a GREAT tattoo coffee table style book coming out this month or next by Kip Fulbeck a professor in SoCal. He recently did a great picture book about mixed Asian Americans as well. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. | Golden Moray | Re: OT: Tattoo thread It's not the tattoos themselves, it's the area. Let's just say that if I wear super ultra mega low cut jeans, they peak out of the front just a little bit. I have a 1" red heart on each side of my lower stomach, just inside of the hip bone. I think it's a little too close for comfort to be posted here.

| Ricordea | Re: OT: Tattoo thread The dragon is my latest, its about 3 years old. I really want to fill in the area around it. The other two tribal bands were my first two, probably 5 years old or so. That picture was taken right after I got the first armband. (I don't wear earrings anymore) |
